SWV vs Xscape

SWV > Xscape

I see SWV & Xscape have a joint reality tv show coming out. I get it, everyone is trying to get their bag. However, in my humble opinion, they’re not even in the same category. At best, Xscape sounds like a really good high school talent show performance. Whereas SWV had that R&B & Hip-Hop mix that the 90s were so good at delivering. Even hardcore Hip-Hop heads dug them. I won’t even mention the Biggie line that he said about Xscape. Google it if you’re curious, haven’t heard, or have forgotten it. In my ignorant, semi-misogynistic youth I thought it was hilarious. Now, when I look back on it, I wonder how they felt about it. I wonder if they turned off Biggie songs when they came on the radio, or if they stopped dancing when they were at the club and the DJ played “Mo Money, Mo Problems’ or ‘Notorious Thugs’. Anyway, besides SWV being dope, they were one of the first R&B groups that I remember sampling other artists when they had a mashup with the King of Pop Michael Jackson’s ‘Human Nature’. With all that being said I’m sure I’ll watch for pure nostalgia. I’m also a sucker for reality shows, the worse the better see Bad Girls Club, Party Down South, and either one of the shore shows that MTV gave us.

This woman was murdered at a red light

Na’Kia Crawford was shot & killed in broad daylight by who witnesses describe as a white man in a black sports car. She was sitting at a red light at the time of the shooting. Her assailant is still at large. She was only 18. She was supposed to go to  Central state university. Another life snuffed out. Say her name.

Cleaning Up in Preservation

We have a new friend in Preservation -- the death mask of Rev. John G. Mitchell, an early alum of Oberlin College. Mitchell graduated in 1858, and went on to help found Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio where he died in 1900.

His death mask is quite dusty, and has seen some real wear and tear over the years, but we’re working on gently cleaning it. Definitely not done yet, but we will keep at it.
