I’m a worrier by nature. My son Kurt is a wildland firefighter who I hadn’t heard from for four days and the last time was when he was headed to the Cold Springs Fire in Washington.

By this morning I was at a point where even ice cream couldn’t help. He called from some unidentified land line to let me know he was fine, his phone was fine but most of the cell towers had burnt down (or up?)

Even with all the energy I had put into imagining scenarios, that one hadn’t occurred to me.

Things are better now, ice cream once again comforts me.

The chaos of the wildcard fires was killing me- Asthma is kind of the worst ailment in existence, so many triggers from perfume to smoke can just wreck you for days or even hospitalize you if it gets severe- I constantly tell people when they hear the laundry list of random skills I have is that the only thing I can’t really do well is breathe. It’s time to spam you guys with my trip to Yellowstone this last week. I met my newest niece on Monday driving up through Rigby, ID. A grand total of 14hrs driving brought us to Livingston, Montana where my friend and I were staying. The chaos of wildfires, construction and thinking we had a quick route promptly screwed us for time there and back. The Tenmile and Sterling complex fires inch closer and closer to my mother's mountain cabin in Montana. It is a sobering reality of nature's power, but it is oddly comforting to know that this fire was caused by nature.
