Hi, Roxy! It's been sooo long since I haven't sent you an ask so I thought why not change that!🙃 I'm back to bother you bestie with another Looney Tunes question. What are the LTs' favorite books and why? (write for as many as you like😊)
Bugs - He doesn't get much time to read, but when he does he prefers fantasy things like Terry Pratchett as well as horror like Stephen King. He likes 'Carrie' and 'Christine' especially.
Porky - The 'Wooster and Jeeves' series by P.G.Wodehouse. He finds them funny and well-written and also envies Wodehouse's talent with words. He's sometimes tried to say the dialogue in his room, but - much to his frustration - can never get through it due to his stammer.
Petunia - Alice In Wonderland by Lewis Carrol. She likes the fantasy element and the morals and harbours a soft spot for the Walrus and The Carpenter. When Disney did the adaption, she was the one who insisted on dragging the rest of the LT's along to see it.
Elmer - 'Grimm's Fairy Tales' and fairy tales in general. He likes seeing how they've changed from the originals to what Disney decide to do with them. His favourite Fairy Tale is the original 'Three Little Pigs.' He's also an Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes fan.
Pepe - Probably to no one's surprise - 'Romeo and Juliet' by Shakespear. He loves the tragedy of it and finds the idea of young love separated to be 'tragic'. Penelope says that's rather the point.
Penelope - 'Rebecca' by Daphne Du Maurier. She considers it the perfect mix of romance and mystery. She particularly likes the 'portrait-dress' scene and likes imagining herself in the dress.
Wile.E - Not that he'd admit it to ANYONE [except Roadie] but he likes Winnie The Pooh. It calms him down and makes him feel like a child again.
Roadrunner - He likes the 'Asterix' series. He finds them hilarious and clever and likes the puns.
Jr - 'The curious incident of the dog in the night time' by Mark Hadden. He felt he could sympathise with the protagonist and indeed the parents as well. It did make him cry.
How does Loonatics Unleashed fit into your canon-verse?
Hey! So it fits in as simply roles the characters play. If needed they can shift back into those personas - as they can do with any other role they've played - but they tend not to. Both because of the negative backlash and the fact they're only really useful for saving the world and that kind of thing.
So, just a few notes. firstly - I wrote this pretty much immediately after seeing the film. These headcanons are also taking place within a ‘the toons are animated actors and LeBron James is working with them’ world. [I’m saying this because otherwise the first one just sounds like a statement]
Also - spoilers for said film. Read at your own risk.
So!
1. Lebron James didn’t actually go to Toon Town. Which meant filming was achieved by the real Lebron acting the scene out and animators animating him in later. It also meant he had another level of acting as he had to act like he was in Toontown even though he wasn’t.
2. Part of the reason this Space Jam was focused on family as well as the game was because Bugs wanted focus to be on the whole of the LT’s as well as him. [Seeing as the last Space Jam was focused on him as the main toon.]
3. They actually filmed quite a few ways the game could have gone with different toons trying out different things, with the idea being that the directors would pick the best. Yosemite Sam shot the ball into the goals. Elmer did a pretty impressive stunt that involved him leaping over the goon squad and scoring [the way he did in the original] but that was kept out because the directors thought it was to close to the original.
4. It took quite a few takes to film the entire basketball game sequence, during which the audience had some fun. They played there own version of basketball, Yogi Bear attempted to find a quiet place to ‘pic-a-nic’ and the scooby gang tried to unmask the wicked witch. [They failed, obviously.]
5. The toons did end up spending time with LeBron James during filming. They went to a couple of theme parks, watched a few movies and had a nice time. Sure, Yosemite Sam crashed one of LeBron’s expensive cars, and Wile.E showed him an invention that nearly killed him. [It was a scooter that was designed to match the speed of the Roadrunner. It did not. It just exploded. Thankfully LeBron wasn’t on it at the time, but the basketball player still calls it ‘attempted murder.’]
All in all though, they had a nice time.
6. The scene when the toons transformed from 2-D to essentially ‘3-D’ was done in one take. The toons had done this before, so were used to it, but it can look a bit weird. The toons that were shown were the ones that were considered ‘the least horrifying.’
Daffy for instance, was fine up until his bill transformed. It looked really weird as it was transforming, so the directors decided not to use it. The human toons going from 2-D to 3-D, also looked weird, hark why none of them were used.
7. Porky’s rapping scene was performed in 3 takes.
8. The reason Marvin wasn’t in the film as much as the other toons was because there was problem with the real-world Toon Mars world, which required his attention. Those scenes were all he could do.
9. There was meant to be a close-up of the Warner Brothers [and the Warner Sister!] on the water tower, but this was scrapped because it was felt it would be unfair to give them a proper cameo that focused on them when they weren't doing the same for any other character.
10. The end scene [with Bugs] was the hardest to film as not only did he have to act like he was glitching when he wasn’t but it really upset the other LT’s and they spent most of the takes crying. [Usually one of them would start and the others would join in, but on at least three separate takes they all just burst into tears] This got to the point Bugs had to get up and remind them all he wasn’t actually dead. By about the 50th take he was at the end of his tether and yelled at his ‘beloved’ family that if they didn’t pull themselves together he would kill THEM.
They got it done in the next take [which is what we saw in the film.]
If someone ever hurt Roadrunner (off-screen in the non-comedic way), how would Wile react?
First of all, to give a bit of context, being created together Wile.E and Roadrunner consider themselves twins and are fiercely protective of each other. Therefore whenever anyone messes with either of them, the other is quick to leap to their defence.
Now, for anyone to actually hurt Roadrunner they have to either have extremely bad luck [I.E. Fall in front of him as he’s running, or accidently drop an anvil on his head] and in those times it’s usually the other toon who comes off worse OR they have to be able to match his speed, which most toons can’t. Therefore if Roadie is ever going to get injured it’s likely going to be by either a Superhero or a Supervillain. Or a toon who’s taken speed-enhancer potions, or by a toon using gadgets to increase their speed.
This is still unlikely, however, because if Roadie ever sees himself in any danger he’ll just increase his own speed and outrun them. So the best way to ‘defeat’ Roadrunner is to make him stop running. Gadgets that can freeze him [either literally or in suspended animation] tend to be favoured. Either that or lock him in somewhere so he can’t run away.
If you are stupid enough to do ANY of them above things in front of Wile.E Coyote...then you may as well just turn yourself into dust now and save the pair of you a lot of hassle. Wile.E does actually know how to invent gadgets, and what’s more gadgets that work. In order to know how to get the gadgets to go wrong, you’ve first of all got to know how to make them work right, after all and over the years Wile.E has earned himself a reputation as a first-class inventor, on par with Ludwig Von Drake.
It depends on the circumstances as to how Wile.E will react. If Roadie is in any actual physical danger, or has been frozen, Wile.E’s first reaction will be do try and help him. If that works then, congrats! You’ve now got two angry toons after you, if it doesn’t work then Wile.E will reach into his hammerspace grab the meanest-looking invention he can find and a motorbike and go off in pursuit.
The motorbike is one of Wile.E’s favourite ‘toys’, not only does it allow him to travel at the same speed as Roadie without putting any physical effort in, he looks very cool and intimidating. He’s also added some modifications to it which allows it to have a rocket boost out the back just in case he needs to go faster, wings that come out the side in case he needs to fly [handy for chasing after super hero’s/villains] and multiple mechanical arms that can throw different things at the perpetrator.
When he catches the perpetrator he usually aims a grabber gun at them which will eject a net. The net will catch the perpetrator and make it so they’re unable to move. Wile.E picks them up, attaches them to the motorbike [how he does that no one’s sure as the motorbike doesn't seem to have any means of attaching something, but somehow Wile.E mangers it] and he drives to the nearest police station to drop the perpetrator off.
He tends to only do the above if he can see it was a deliberate attack. If it’s an accident he just helps Roadie out, then the two of them go about their day.
Say do you have any headcanons of wile e when he's not chasing the roadrunner,or hobbies he does (Also love your writing (◍•ᴗ•◍)
Okay, so first up, sorry for the long wait. I've been working on my fics and had a lot of RL stuff.
Anyway, so:
Mostly Wile.E does the things you might expect from watching him on the TV. He comes up with plans to catch the roadrunner [he largely designs all his own gags for his cartoons], he does inventing [particularly focusing on building gadgets and the like] and he enjoys reading [mainly large, complicated non-fiction books, but he has been known to enjoy a crime novel and even the odd romance. Wile.E has quite the sentimental heart.]
He also likes reading comic books, watching the likes of D.C. and Marvel and spending time with the roadrunner. They try and meet up once a week to go on a long, leisurely walk and catch-up. To be fair they usually manage at least twice a month, if not three, but they both enjoy their walks.
Also, as his cartoons require a lot of physical acting, Wile.E tries to go down the gym at least 3 times a week for two hours. One of these is with the Roadrunner [the other time he meets with Roadie is for dinner. They alternate houses.] He also enjoys jogging.
In more modern times Wile.E has also discovered adult colouring books which he enjoys doing. He initially tried the sort that have patterns that you colour, but through trial and error discovered he likes the ones with actual pictures and about nature.
He has a room in his house which holds a desk which he colours on. He puts on the TV also in that room and watches it while colouring. He considers it his 'me time' and gets annoyed when anyone - even Roadie - interrupts it.
Since adopting Calamity he also aims to take the boy to at least one museum/gallery/educational activity per month. It's their bonding time and an activity they both look forward to.
About an hour after the last chapter Bugs stood with his arms folded looking critically at the...thing that Marvin and Wile.E were telling him was a car. It looked, to Bugs’s critical eye, very much like a jagged rock. This would be because it was a jagged rock, a deep jagged rock, hollowed out to create a drivers seat, a steering wheel somehow forced into it and four wheels haphazardly slung onto it. In a bid to make it personal to him Pepe and Penelope had painted it orange and were proposing he call it ‘The Carrot.’ Not th most original of names, but there you go.
“So...lemme jus’ get this straight.” Bugs said, slowly. “Ya want me ta actually drive this thing?”
Despite having the perfect set-up Bugs - with great effort - made no jokes or witty comebacks and instead positioned himself in the drivers seat, popped a helmet on [safety first and all that] put his seatbelt on and then raced off to join the others.
‘Sweet moither of carrots, this is fast!’ Bugs thought to himself as he zipped round corners and up and down the sides of hills. No wonder the Wacky Racers all seemed to look permanently startled!
After a good half an hour Bugs saw his first car and - tightening his grip on the wheel - pushed down the accelerator. The car lunged forward with such speed Bugs was left in the air for about two seconds before being pulled back into his drivers seat by the seatbelt.
He landed upside down and hastened to right himself. When he did manage this the first thing he saw was a cliff coming towards him so he grabbed the wheel and turned away from the cliff somehow managing to end up back on the path. Heart nearly beating out his chest he panted and briefly thought of his house and nice comfy bed before giving himself a slap and readjusting his hands more tightly on the wheel. He WOULD get Sam back even if it killed 'im.
Bugs pressed down the accelerator and zoomed off, this time managing to stay on the track. He was on there a while actually, about 45 minutes before he saw the first car. Annoyingly it wasn't Sam's and Bugs wasn't familiar enough with the world of wacky racers to identify it. It wasn't Penelope Pitstop or Peter Perfect he knew that.
As he tried to overtake, one of the toons (a caveman) leaned over and whacked him on the back of the head with a club. "Hey!" Bugs cried as the caveman tried to batter him senseless. "Cut it out! Yer damagin' me ears!"
The cave man ignored him and Bugs - in a fit of anger - turned the wheel sharply causing the car to whack into the side of the cavemen's (there were two of them) car which, in turn, sent them flying down the side of the cliff.
There seems no need to go over every racer, but suffice to say that Bugs through a mix of intelligence; trickery and, in one if two cases, blunt force, managed to eventually reach Sam. Not that he was exactly hard to miss. The gold that his car was painted saw to that.
"Sam!" Bugs bellowed, trying to be heard over the sound of the engine. "SAM"
The pirate twitched and tightened his hands on the steering wheel, a grim line of determination on his face. In hindsight Bugs should have recognised that look for what it was. Sam was In The Zone. Any attempts to distract him would surely end in tears. However, in that moment, seeing as he was literally *that* far away from him Bugs grabbed a megaphone out of hammerspace and screamed into it. "YOSEMITE SAM!"
Sam - not expecting that - wobbled dangerously and his hands jerked of the wheel sending the car spinning of the road.
Bugs winced and braked making the car shriek as he did so. When the dust had cleared he looked left and right then hopped out the car and ran across to the wreck. "Sam!" He called, worriedly. "Sammy, are you alright?"
There was a long pause, during which Bugs started composing songs for Sam's funeral, then a pale hand grasped the wreckage of the car and - with a dramatic gasp - Yosemite Sam pulled himself out of the wreckage and mustered enough strength to look straight at Bugs and growl. "I hates you."
Bugs took the statement with good grace and, holding out a hand, pulled Sam from the wreckage. "An' dere I was t'inkin' you'd be glad ta see me." He said, teasingly.
Sam glared and, adopting the voice of a posh upper-class englishman [think Mac and Tosh] said. "It may have escaped your here notice, Mr Bunny, but you have just WRECKED MY CAR!"
Bugs blinked and shrugged, giving the easy smile that always worked with Daffy. "Eh...Oi crushed Wile.E under a boulder. He was happy ta see me."
Sam glared and pointed at the smouldering wreck that had once been a car.
Bugs followed his point and, feeling a stab of guilt, mumbled. "Yeah...so dat's not great..."
"IT'S WRECKED!" Sam screeched. "An YOU ah wrecked it!"
"Well..." Bugs murmured as the feeling of guilt intensified. "Technically you're hands were on the wheel-"
Suddenly without warning Sam's eyes welled up with tears and he started blubbing. "Ya don't understand! Tha' car-" He indicated the smoking pile of metal. "-took me 3 weeks ta make! To craft! From scratch! They wouldn't let me race until ah had a car!" 'They' Bugs presumed to be the Wacky Racers. "An' now I've got it it's-ah taken me four an' a half month to claw ma way ta fourth - fourth! - place! This - this! - was gonna be mah chance to crack at least top three! An' now it's gone! An' it's all YOUR FAULT! An' ya not even sorry!"
Bugs's guilt was to string for him to ignore now and he said, aiming for a placating tone. "Look Sam, I'm sorry, oi really am! I didn't know the car meant that much ta ya. We'll-" He thought quickly. "We'll get it fixed! Look, gimme a minute-" Bugs got a flag out his hammerspace and shoved it into the ground. "I claim this planet in the name of Earth!" He said, clearly.
As was expected Marvin appeared a few foot away from him and walked over with his own flag. "I claim this planet in the name of Mars!" He said, briskly. "Now, what is it you want, earth-creature?"
Bugs looked at him with a attitude that said 'really' and nodded his head at Sam. Marvin looked over at Sam and clapped his hands together. "Oh, Yosemite Sam! It's SO good to see you again!"
"Likewise brother." Sam said, gruffly as they hugged. "Now what can you do about my car?"
Marvin frowned and walked over to the wreckage. He made a few calculations and walked round the wreckage about five times all while muttering in Martian. Neither Sam or Bugs were fluent in Martian but they could pick up some words. 'Idiots', 'disaster' and 'time' being the main ones. Well after half an hour Marvin made the final notes on his checkboard and speed-walked over to Bugs and Sam, looking grim. Bugs and Sam immediately sat up and looked interested.
"The car is very nearly a write-off." Marvin announced, in his usual blunt fashion. "How it survived at all is beyond me. However it is fixable." He grimaced. "It'll just take a while."
"Eh...how long's a 'while', Doc?" Bugs asked, conscious that this whole thing was on a time limit.
"How long have we got?" The Martian asked, thrown for a loop.
The rabbit did a quick calculation. It didn't take long. "13 days." He said. "An' den Rhythm does Jones knows what. Give up hopefully. But de fact is we need ta get everyone back within those 13 days or they'll be..." Bugs couldn't even bring himself to say the words, a weird lump forming in his throat.
Thankfully Marvin understood [it helped that he had already been brought up to speed on the stakes offscreen a few chapters ago.] and he said, quickly. "Don't worry it will certainly take less than 13 days. Less than 13 hours probably, if we all work together and you listen to my instructions exactly without any fooling around..." Here he narrowed his eyes at Bugs.
Bugs was not an idiot. The meaning was clear and, although normally he might happily 'fool around', there was to much riding on this for him to do so. Really, strictly speaking, he should probably insist they leave Sam's personal junkyard behind, but he knew if he did that the pirate would never forgive him. And contrary to what people may think Bugs didn't want to upset his on-screen 'enemies' TO much...
"Well den." He said, brightly, clapping his hands together and smiling at Marvin. "Whadda we waiting for? Lets call de oithers and get fixin'!"
Another complicated ask! I like these ones, they tax my brain. I’ve done my best to answer in a way that makes sense. So, my first rule when thinking about the ages and development of toons is that they CANNOT act any younger than they were created to be. This is on the assumption they’re given a concrete age.
Take Buster as an example. Created to be 13/14. He can’t act any younger than that, so for the first 13 years of his life he acts like a 13 year old. During those years he learns more about the world and how his toon powers work. He attends school. [Not the Looniversity as that’s a middle/high school. The break in between filming Tiny Toons and opening the Looniversity allowed the Looney Tunes to get their teaching degrees]
Once Buster turns 14 he starts ageing mentally and although he can’t become physically older than 13, he can learn more about the world and age mentally.
Before that his age went up and down on a nearly day-to-day basis. He’d be 1 one week and five the next. Over time this rapid switching of ages would slow down and he’d settle comfortably into one age for about a month at a time [unless something happened to make his age change]
The entire process of the aging of toons is extremely complicated however, and is the reason why humans aren’t allowed to venture into Toontown unless they’re escorted. [Or, in the olden days, they happened to be one of the directors/creators]
A note abut ageing though, it’s been discovered that the older toons become the less likely they are to slip back to younger personas. It would be unusual for, say, Wile.E.Coyote, who is in his 70′s, to go back to being under fifty, for example, and if he went back to being under 30 it would be considered an indicator that something was seriously wrong. [I.E. something had happened to take him back to a, likely traumatic, time in his life]
A a generalisation a toon tends to stop going up and down in their aging from about twenty onwards.
“-But all I’m saying is that it makes sense to get Sam!” Penelope said, for about the 5th time. “Then we know we’ve got everyone who was connected with the cartoon network universe!”
“But that’s completely illogical.” Marvin said, bluntly. “Sam, as we know, can take care of himself and is unlikely to cause great harm to himself or others. Sam is also in the ‘Wacky Racers’ universe, which is not unlike our own. Wile.E and Roady however are in the ‘Mad Max’ universe. That’s a completely different ballgame, so to speak, and we should retrieve them first so they can’t cause damage to other people, each other and themselves in that order.”
Bugs sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. Why, WHY did he think this would be simple? Just go round the universes and get everyone back. A hard conversation may be needed here and there [he was anticipating one with Daffy, for instance] but on the whole he was certain the others would come back. After all, why wouldn’t they? The entire family was here after all, would they really want to be left behind?
Just as Tweety was yelling that actuawwy GRANNY would be a good idea as she was - and direct quote - ‘owd and fwail’ [which Bugs personally found hilarious as he’d seen frailer cement mixers] the decision was taken out of there hands.
“Stop!” Pepe yelled at the top of his lungs, seeing he now had everyone’s attention he said, calmly. “Why do we not see what planet we are closest to and retrieve the toons on there, yes? Make it simple, no?”
A thought flashed across Bugs’s mind that if they carried on down that route it meant Fudd would be last, but he shook the thought away like it was an irritating insect. Fudd would be fine, Bugs reasoned, he was more quick-witted and intelligent than people gave him credit for. He would be fine. Fine! Absolutely fine...
Marvin smiled [or at least the others assumed he was smiling. It was a bit hard to tell] and ‘full-speeded ahead’ to Mad Max Universe.
“Be careful!” Pepe yelled as Penelope crashed into him. “You are not on the racing track now, non?”
Marvin - somewhat uncharacteristically - ignored him and just landed the spaceship with a small ‘thud!’ “Well.” The Martian said, as he zeroed in on Wile.E’s and the Roadrunners trackers. “Here we are. The Mad Max universe. There was a pause before Marvin said, with faux brightness. “So, who’s going to volunteer to get our two brothers then?”
It soon transpired that it was Bugs himself who was going to ‘volunteer’ for this no doubt arduous task, what with the rabbit being the fastest amongst them.
“How do I get meself into dese situations?” Bugs wondered aloud, as he stood in the middle of a dust road looking for any sign of either the road runner or the coyote. Then he saw it. The familiar dust trail of the roadrunner which Bugs knew from previous experience meant he was about five-
-zoom!-
...make that two seconds away. And if the roadrunner was here, that meant the coyote wasn’t that far behind-
-zoom!-
Aaaaaannnnnnnnddddddddddd there he went! Bugs turned tail and ran after him.
Wile.E, Bugs could hardly fail to notice, looked like an advertisement for leather. Leather coat, leather gloves and a weird looking mask tied across his eyes, making him look like a robber. In one hand he wielded what looked like a extended litter-picker with the end significantly modified so it was [in theory] capable of catching roadrunners. The other hand was clutching the steering wheel of the motorbike he’d presumably ‘borrowed’ from somewhere.
Bugs ran flat out as he did his best to get level with the coyote, and it was a testament to his abilities and pig-headed determination that he actually managed it. “Wile.E!” Bugs called, loudly in order to ensure he was heard over the noise. “Wile E! It’s me Bugs!”
The coyote looked at him in startled surprise, taking his eyes of the road for literally about two seconds, but that two seconds was all the universe needed for Wile.E to fall flat on his face and go skidding into a rock, which caused a boulder to fall from above onto him, just for good measure.
Bugs winced and slowly sidled up to the rock where the coyotes arm was sticking out from under it. The rabbit waited for his younger brother to come crawling out from under it, probably glaring daggers, but nothing happened. After a few more seconds he got concerned and tried to move the boulder himself.
Back in Tune World this wouldn’t be a problem. As long as Bugs timed it at either a funny moment, or a moment that made sense within the narration, he’d have been able to do it. But, Bugs realised as he pushed, shoved and yelled curses at the rock, this wasn’t Toon World.
“Beap, beap!”
Bugs let out a shout of surprise and jumped about ten metres in the air, before landing with a thud. He sighed, got up and turned to see the road runner examining the rock critically. Seeing Bugs looking at him, Roadie held up a sign which said. ‘You get one side, I’ll get the other.’
Really, Bugs thought, this might be a good time to get Marvin’s disintegration ray, or maybe the other toons, but he didn’t really have time to argue so he just grabbed the other end of the rock [which was thankfully quite jagged, so easy enough to get a grip onto as opposed to the smooth round boulders that usually fell on Wile.E.] and together he and Roadie lifted the boulder of off the coyote and looked at the crushed noodle-like body beneath it.
Bugs stared silently, trying to digest what had just happened, while the roadrunner donned a black suit and tie and threw a random wreath at the coyote’s still body.
As soon as that wreath made contact with Wile.E’s stomach the coyote ‘rose from the dead’ ala Mushu style saying dramatically. “IIIIII LLLLLLIIIIIIIVVVVVVVEEEEEE!”
He was rewarded for this Oscar-worthy spot of acting by tomatoes being thrown at him by Roadie and Bugs. “Dat’s for quotin’ Disney!” Bugs told him sternly.
Wile.E shrugged. “Don’t blame me, inferior creature, I didn’t write the script.”
They glared at each other and then, going a 180, hugged and laughed joyously. “Oh!” Wile.E exclaimed, as he swung Bugs around. “I’m so glad you’re alive! I would like to say we never gave up hope, but I’m afraid that would be a lie as we’ve thought you were dead for the past few months now.”
Wile.E popped Bugs back on the ground and the rabbit wasted no time shaking himself to get all of the dust and rocks and like out his fur. “Oi’m gonna be hearin’ that for de next few chapters, ain’t I?” He reflected.
In response Wile.E simply pointed. Bugs followed the point and saw Roadie holding up a sign that said. ‘Well, the last time we saw you you were left alone with an angry psycho. So, you know, assumptions were made.”
Bugs grinned and flapped his arms. “Ah, never mind all dat! C’mon, Oi’ve managed to get some of the gang already, we’re all on Marvin’s spaceship! C’mon, follow me brothers!” And with that he dramatically turned heal and started in the direction of the spaceship. [Which wasn’t actually visible from where they were, Bugs having had to go on something of a hunt for his younger brothers.]
He got about ten steps in before realising he was Coyote-and-Roadrunner-less and turned back to see Wile.E standing in the middle of the dust track with his arms folded and his nose in the air, while Roadrunner looked confused and kept looking between the two like he was a spectator at a volleyball match.
Bugs approached his coyote brother carefully and asked. “Eh...what’s up, Wile.E?”
Wile.E scoffed and holding his nose up even higher [if that was possible] said; “I find it interesting, Mr Bunny, that you assume I shall just go with you?”
The rabbit frowned. confused by this question. “...Why wouldn’t ya?” He asked, eventually.
Wile.E scoffed again, as if to say ‘if you don’t know I’m not going to tell you’ and turned his back on the rabbit.
Bugs was now very confused and started pulling apart the conversation they’d just had in his mind to see if there was anything he’d said that would explain the coyote’s behaviour. About ten seconds into this thinking Bugs was gently pushed aside by Roadrunner who held up a sign that said: ‘Leave this to me.’
[Note from Author: The following conversation has been translated into English for ease of reading. Within the universe of the fic, on the other hand, the below conversation was said in roadrunner style beaps from both parties concerned. The author has also tried to keep Roadie’s rhyming style of speech. Whether she’s succeeded or not is a different matter.]
Roadrunner stepped closer to his brother and said, in a kindly tone.
“Wile.E, my brother,
From one twin to another
Would you be so kind?
Tell me what is on your mind?”
Wile.E took a moment to think about exactly what was bothering him, before saying in a measured manner. “I’m thinking Roadie that...I’m old.”
Roadie’s eyes went wide and Wile.E hurriedly clarified. “Oh, I know what you’re going to say, I’m in my early 70′s, early 70′s is no longer considered ‘old’. Except, factually, it is. Even if you take into consideration the fact that I’m a toon and therefore immortal, I just can’t help wondering...how much longer can I do this?”
His brother looked at him in a manner that suggested he was unsure of what he meant. Clicking his tongue impatiently Wile.E snapped. “For Newton’s sake, do I have to spell it out!? How much longer can I keep throwing myself off of cliffs and under boulders and the like without damage? Even with gadgets like these...” Here he looked down at the custom-made grabber and chuckled. “...Not that we’ve got anything like this back on Tune Town. I mean, look at this!” Here he went into a half-mad description of what exactly the grabber was made of, what it could do and why exactly it was the best thing since sliced bread. Roadrunner waited patiently the whole time this lecture went on, nodding at what he felt were appropriate intervals until, finally, Wile.E finished with: “But what’s the use? I’ll never be able to invent another one.”
Roadrunner frowned and said, rapidly. “But Wile.E, why ever not?
Seeing as you’re a total swot*
Would it not be so very easy,
to build something just as great?
From an engineers point of view,
it should be easy to recreate
And with me by your side
You’ll be sure to hit your stride.” At the end of his little rhyme, Roadie smiled brightly at his twin and waited for the verdict.
“Because, my fraternal twin brother, I made THIS one via the materials on this planet and seeing as when I step on Marvin’s ship I’m presumably not coming back here then that means I’m somewhat sunk, aren't I? More than usual, I mean.” Wile.E looked at the grabber and lovingly stroked it.
While he was doing that Roadie thought. Truth be told he had heard this more than a few times before. Wile.E periodically went through periods where he thought he was reaching the end of his genius, but he usually pulled through. This time he sounded different though. More wistful and melancholy. It concerned Roadie, but he was unsure of what to say and went quiet for a bit trying to think of the right words.
While he was doing that Wile.E’s ginormous brain was ticking, slotting the pieces together as he looked down at the grabber. Really, now he was actually thinking about it instead of running on emotion, the materials the grabber was made with weren't that different to similar materials that could be found on Tune Town. Melt an anvil down, for instance, and simply reshape it...
Wile.E smiled. Oh yes, that would work alright. He was an idiot to have not thought of it before!
Roadrunner saw the familiar smile and, immediately perking up, said rapidly to Bugs. “I think you will be happy to know, we are finally ready to go.”
Bugs made a celebrationary air-grab and grabbing his brothers by the arm and wing respectably pulled them in the direction of the spaceship. Luckily Roadrunners brain was ahead of Bugs’s on this occasional and he had also see where the spaceship was earlier on in the chapter when he’d speeded ahead; so, with his usual catchphrase, he ran under Bugs so the rabbit was forced to cling to him and sped of at about 1000 miles an hour, not wanting to waste any time.
Behind them Wile.E smiled wickedly and activated the grabber which enabled him to swing between boulders [how he managed not to crush himself the author only knows] essentially becoming the coyote version of Tarzan and together they speeded towards the ship
