I COULDN'T BE MORE IN LOVE
The sun shone down as harsh as it possibly could. Noone on the beach seemed to care, I mean who could really be bothered to care? Your whole friend group was drinking and mucking about.
You weren't though. You couldn't bring yourself to after how overwhelming the day had been for you. Too much socialising, too much mingling. And yet, you were still with your friends, trying to figure out the best time to leave so noone would notice. Chris bit Arthurtv's shoulder causing him to yelp and everyone to laugh.
That was your cue. Everyone was distracted by the scene. You shot up off the beach and for some reason ran like your life depended on it. You internally felt a bit embarrassed while you ran, but you realised you were too far into it to turn back. You got off the beach and onto the concrete of the carpark. There were around two cars which surprised you slightly. You pulled out your phone, ready to call an uber to take you home.
The uber would come in 20 minutes. Great. Fucking great. You pressed your head against your knees. You just hoped, no, you prayed noone noticed you were gone. That's when you heard footsteps behind you. You turned to see will. Fucking spoke to soon.
"You alright?" He asked as you looked up at him from your spot on the concrete.
You nodded, hoping he'd go back to the others. Obviously he didn't. Instead, he sat down next to you.
"Are you gonna tell me what's wrong?" He asked, giving you a small smile and wrapping his arm around your shoulders. "Or do I get the silent treatment?"
You couldn't help the small laugh that escaped your lips.
"Just... a bit drained by people." You croaked. Internally wincing at how your voice sounded.
"Oh." His voice softened slightly. "Are you going home?"
He nodded in response, you were sure a look of disappointment swept across his face.
"Did you order an uber?" He asked.
"Oh- yeah. Yeah." You mumbled.
"Want me to stay with you until it comes?" He asked you.
You hesitated. You wanted him to stay, but you didn't want to force him to stay with you when he could be with both of your friends instead.
"I mean- you don't have to–"
"I'll stay with you then." He quickly cut you off to stop your muttered nervous rambling.
It still made him laugh. You'd both know eachother for six years through your mutual friend James, and yet, you acted like you'd only known him a day everytime you saw him.
You and Will spoke until your uber came. Well- it was mostly Will speaking, you just listened instead, not that you minded though. You loved the way his eyes lit up when he spoke about something he liked or the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed. It made you feel fuzzy inside. It couldn't be– no. No. It couldn't be. He was just a good friend. You couldn't– no. No. No way.
You both stood up when your uber came. Will placed his hand on your lower back as you walked towards it.
"Are you staying?" You asked Will quietly.
"Yeah. I mean– someone has to be the responsible one with all of those dickheads, you know?" He laughed, his eyes crinkling as he did.
You nodded letting out a small laugh aswell.
Will's hand found your cheek. You swallowed. You both locked eyes. And then he pulled away.
He brushed some hair out of your face before hugging you. You wrapped your arms around his neck before you both pulled away and you got into your uber.
The sun somehow broke through your curtains. You groaned and covered your eyes with your arm. Your phone buzzed on your bedside table. You reluctantly sat up and grabbed it.
'Hope you got home safe, everyone missed you when you left :('
Your heart skipped a beat, which confused you. It didn't mean anything, he was just being nice.
'I did thanks! How was last night after I left?'
'I mean nothing really happened except that chris threw up after harry dared him to chug his 4th bottle of beer.'
You laughed quietly to yourself.
You couldn't help but feel a twist in your heart at the fact that you had left early last night. You always got FOMO every time, and yet, you couldn't stop yourself from getting either overwhelmed or tired.
You put your phone down and got up from your bed, stretching your arms behind your back. You lazily walked over to your mirror, standing in front of it and messing with your hair. Your stomach rumbled.
With a sigh, you walked to your kitchen and opened your fridge just to realise you had nothing to eat. You cursed at this.
The supermarket was cold and pretty derelict for a Thursday morning. Your fingers grasped your shopping basket as you grabbed some stuff to put in your empty fridge. Wearing black headphones that were blasting some indie band's music, seemingly blocking out your thoughts and the world around you.
A hand on your shoulder snapped you out of your bubble. You yelped and swivelled around, only to see Will there with a stupid shit eating grin on his face.
You took off your headphones.
"Fucksake, Will! You scared the absolute shit out of me." You snapped, hitting his chest.
"Sorry." He laughed. "Empty fridge?"
He laughed again, much to your dismay.
"Sorry about making you wait with me last night." You muttered quietly.
"What?" He looked honestly taken aback.
"You heard me. I'm sorry." You repeated, your voice getting a tad louder.
"I chose to stay with you, you didn't force me to do anything." He replied earnestly, a hand tucking a stray lock of hair behind your ear. "I did it because I lo- care about you." He added as a hint of pink rushed to his cheeks.
You nodded and then hugged him.
It was stupid and cheesy, hugging him in a supermarket of all places. But maybe it meant something... a symbol of some sorts – atleast you hoped.
