Will Reed - H-Game: Nessa no Rakuen
The Sweep’s Boy, by Jim Eldridge. Pretty obvious from the title that it’s about child labor, but there is also a significant amount of child abuse. A lot of similarity to Eldridge’s book Dodger!, though this one was written first. One part was based on a true story, but otherwise a few books from this series expand more on what this book presents.
Will doesn’t sound like someone who grew up in a workhouse, but that isn’t explained until the very end. I actually thought that the ending should have been more of the story, because it would have been similar to, yet different from Dear Canada’s Orphan at My Door.
Goodreads star rating: 2/5.
