"Be Thankful For What You Got" - Sade, Nakano SunPlaza, Tokyo, Japan, May 11, 1986
As far as I know, Sade never got around to recording William DeVaughn's classic "Be Thankful For What You Got" in the studio ā but on this live tape in Tokyo from 1986, it sounds tailor-made for the group. Lush and smooth, yeah, but with a hint of deep melancholy that takes it to another level. Things are tough all over, but remember brothers and sisters, you can still stand tall. Everyday is all there is. Happy Thanksgiving?
Sade Says: What I like personally when I listen to other peopleās music is when the music makes you feel something. Sad, happy, makes you want to dance, makes you feel elated. Sadness in songs is positive because it brings it out of you; it brings the sadness out. Itās not that the song makes you feel sad, the sadness is already there. The song just makes you recognize it.
