Heads up to anyone who loved In Memoriam by Alice Winn - I just finished The Boy I Love by William Hussey, and it is VERY MUCH that energy.

OH MY GOD READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW

The Boy I Love by William Hussey. WWI gay romance set in 1916 and leading up to the battle of the Somme.

It's absolutely devastating and undeniably beautiful, fricking hell, I'm literally nursing a book hangover almost as bad as when I finished All The Young Dudes, which is about five times longer.

The way the author ties up every plot point, every character, every little object and motif and line of song and bit of dialogue, every backstory, every... well, everything, is incredible and masterfully done. The hell of the trenches is vivid, this book has these long passages with painstakingly perfect words that illustrate the horrors and the visceral feeling of trench life, and everything else too, every setting, every feeling.

Please read this book. I love it so much.
