The Process of Background Creation
Since the director of the project does not have much free spending money to hire others right now, she had to learn how to draw backgrounds herself! Here is what she did, in her own words;
"ok so i just kinda loaded shit up from pinterest that vaguely resembled what i was imagining in my head and had them in the sidebar as refs. eventually i managed to scribble this
obviously, it needed to be more than just shapes. it needed to have depth. so, i tried my best to detail the place in a way that would still feel faithful to the rest of the details of the story - not too much but not empty either. eventually, i had this
my favorite part of creation is the addition of color, especially now that i know how to use gradient maps to tweak palettes to become closer to one another. my starting colors are usually from a quite limited palette, which i use as a base. if i find a particular scheme turns out ugly, i just paint over it, and along the way i use gradient maps to bring the colors closer in unity, until i have the most important things blocked out
obviously, that's not done, but i don't actually WANT the lighting to be that harsh - the halls are decently well illuminated - but i still wanted it to feel gloomy anyway, due to the scene that takes place. so i added some mild adjustments, a couple of lighting scribbles, some extra scruffy shading, and then...
i stopped here because i thought it was good enough to get the idea across. im sure i could have expanded on it, made it much more beautiful or something, but... i had already been working on this for a couple-few hours and wanted to be done, so. it was done!
it is possible i will add another adjustment to lighting before the final video if i feel like it should be harsher, but i like it for now :D"

If you would like to see less "crunchy" backgrounds in the final production of ACT 01, there is an artist we've hired to do our title screens who is willing to come on for a larger illustrative role should we provide the funding! Here are some examples of their work;
When the Kickstarter goes up, which will coincide with the release of Chapter 01 (est Q2 2025), the first stretch goal is dedicated to hiring them full-on!
