Here's something I'm working on.
I've been trying to solve a decades-long mystery. Between 1992 and 1995 there was an old software I used to play with. All I remember about it is that it was a tile placer with little icons representing things like cars, houses, plants, even a sea serpent which I remember liking to use a lot. You could use this software to plan fantasy maps, make street plans, anything at all that you could do with tiny icons on a big gridded canvas. I have been unable to find out what this program was called so i have accepted that this has unfortunately been lost to time :(
I have not given up, though. I am going to recreate this software with my memory only and basic level coding knowledge. I gave it a classic 1995 UI for familiarity. I'm trying to sprite everything but for now, some icons are dumb emojis. There's even a Christmas mode you can test out for me on December 1st! I'd really like to know if it works.
I've lovingly named it "Windmap98" even though the software it is based on is definitely not from the time period of Windows 1998.
