Snowcapped La Sal Mountains rise tall with the exquisite Turret Arch in the foreground at Arches National Park in Utah. The bright blue hues of the mountains and sky complement the deep orange color of the arches. Visiting the Windows Section of the park, a gentle climb up a gravel path leads to North Window, South Window and Turret Arch. Ripe with photo opportunities, the intricately sculpted arches feel like an intentional museum exhibit. As you wander through it, you can't help but reflect on how gorgeous the subjects of wind erosion can be. Photo courtesy of Nina Mayer Ritchie.
The Dark Woods of Hardin County
I met with the Gallatin County Illinois Historical Society in Old Shawneetown, down along the Ohio river. I heard alot of stories that day. Tales of murder. Tales of mayhem. Of floods and destruction and death. Of Masonic banks and haunted hangmans trees.
But I heard one story that I think you’ll like:
Sometime back in the day they were building a road down in Hardin County south of the Saline River. They were supposed to cut a road through one particularly dense chunk of woods. So the bulldozer operator drove into this area trying to push a road through. In a few minutes he backed out. Got down off his machine. Said he wouldnt go back in there. That the woods was “as dark as midnight 20 feet in there” and eventually they built the road somewhere else.
Is this a chunk of Primordial Forest? A fae area? Perhaps a window area? The last refuge of forest spirits? A blot of darkness left from the sacrifices of the Mound Builders?
Or something even darker and more ancient?
Im hoping to find this woods one day. To see for my own eyes what mysteries await there in the darkness.
The Singular Fortean Society recently corresponded through a series of emails with a man who said he had witnessed “many balls of light” in a rural area of Indiana near Prairie Creek Reservoir. Prairie Creek Reservoir has been the center of a recent string of reports that describe sightings of a wi
Could these anomalous balls of light be related to 'Mothman' sightings near Prairie Creek Reservoir?

South Carolina resident Debra Thomson posted a video to YouTube on December 24th, 2018 which she said shows a “beautiful red sphere” flying off of Kiawah Island at around 9:33 p.m. that evening.
Is there a UFO window area in South Carolina?
Site Update: Paranormal Window Areas
I'm giving a speech in Galena this weekend... John Keel (author of the Mothman Prophecies) referred to Window Areas. These are physical places around the world where paranormal activity of all types are observed (ghosts, cryptids, UFOs, etc).
After giving a speech this weekend on the topic, I’m excited to open a new part of the site that will be a place to report and share info on what John Keel (author of the Mothman Prophecies) referred to as “Window Areas.” These are physical places around the world where paranormal activity of all types are observed (ghosts, cryptids, UFOs, etc.). It’s potentially proof that all (so far called)…

Field Research
We’ve officially made plans to investigate the window areas of Western Illinois.
The Riverlands seems to have a series of triangular window regions, with specific “soft spots” or “windows” sprinkled throughout.
The rivers form two rough inverted triangles in Illinois-- the Western Illinois Triangle, starting at the confluence of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers and the Southern Illinois Triangle that is focused at the tip of the state at the city of Cairo-- the city of which is bisected by the 37th parallel, also known as the “UFO Highway” .
The Riverlands are called that for a reason.
There’s a perception-- and maybe that’s part of why this story is so compelling-- that there’s nothing to this region but flat. Corn. Nothing. Where better for the weirdest things to happen, than a place no one expects?
But the triangle region were preparing to visit has a multitude of odd stories, and strange cryptids. We’ve heard the stories of the white hairy creatures. The dogmen, if you can really call them that. The giant birds. The ghost haunted woods.
I’ll keep you posted on what we find.
