Winged Cleaver
I think one of the best things Reshef of Destruction taught me was respect for ALL of the cards, not just the powerful ones or ones commonly used in the show. Winged Cleaver, Nemuriko, The Bewitching Phantom Thief, Kaminarikozou/Thunder Kid, and Hourglass of Life were cards that stuck with me til the end, and even stuff like Witch of the Black Forest and Baby Dragon were super powerful and hard to come by for me.
Because of how tough the game was, I had to take stuff that wouldn't last long in a real-life deck and make it work through strategy. Using a bunch of weak cards to slowly whittle down 8000 LP or more was extremely satisfying--I really felt like the Heart of the Cards was with me, especially for come-from-behind victories.
I mean, I did use stuff like Time Wizard and Flame Swordsman, but that was more for strategy and convenient power than anything else--they were in there with Flower Wolf, Ill Witch, and Lucky Trinket!
Reshef was also where I became interested in the Witty Phantom card/character. The magician Arkana was a near-insurmountable obstacle for me on my first runthrough because of his Witty Phantom cards. Sure. some of his cards were stronger than that, but thanks to the attribute advantage house rules I could fight back. But he always seemed to draw a Witty Phantom when I had no dream monsters to fight back, and since it was boosted by the Yami Field, none of my single-tribute monsters could stand up to a creature with 1820 attack--I either had to somehow power up a strong monster twice, trick him into a trap, or pull a Dream Monster before he could tribute it to summon the powerful Doll of Demise or worse.
When I finally did win against him the first time, I felt like it was a personal victory against those stubborn Witty Phantoms, and later on when I learned the Phantom was in two episodes of the Legendary Heroes arc, I got back into Yu-Gi-Oh as a whole! (I'd seen parts of it, but I either didn't see all of it or just plain forgot about the characters involved in the story.)
Obscure cards have so much potential because no one would expect them, too XD
Some of the more obscure monsters were featured in Capsule Monsters, too, which made me happy :) And fanfics like Shadow Realm 15 had them too!
