Seven Sentences Sunday Tag

There's some construction work being done across the street and for someone who often sleeps during the day I am having a sad time of it. 😔 So I've just been writing bits and pieces on my phone while waiting for them to go to lunch. I think this is part of season 2 of my Vampire AU? Maybe.

Young rounded the corner and found Greer pinning Volker up against a wall. Even though another man's reaction might have been 'this is the last thing I need right now', Young's bordered closer to relief. Someone else had problems besides him. They were all struggling. Neither Greer nor Volker met him with the reactions he'd been expecting however. Greer should have had a moment of rebellion, meeting Young's gaze head-on before he processed that he was eyeballing a superior officer and backed off. Volker should have been relieved to see him. As it was, Volker's face donned the pallor of someone about to be sick, while Greer sprang away from the other man as if burned. For the split second of what should have been anger directed at Young for the interruption, all Young could identify on the younger man's face was fear.

Music - Aliens made them do it (SGU)

He wouldn't, however, turn down a distraction by the way of conversation. He and Chloe still often met in the mess in the middle of the night to discuss anything and everything other than the reason they were awake. Her mathematical skills were flourishing. Things were going well with Lieutenant Scott, with the lad really putting in the effort to make her feel as normal as possible. Once Rush had even hummed the first piece of music Gloria had ever composed, his vocal chords decidedly out of practice at staying in tune.

Noise - Your Own Worst Enemy (SGU)

Young just makes an inconsolable noise and buries his face in Telford's neck. It will be alright in the end. Young feels things keenly in the moment and it can eat at him if left to his own devices, but Telford is here now. Young needs someone to confide in, an equal who can take some of the weight off his shoulders. He hasn't had that on Destiny, Scott too inexperienced and full of hero worship to be a suitable candidate, and Rush entirely out of the question - more likely to use things against him than offer support. But it's okay now. Telford scratches lightly at the back of Young's neck. The man's hair will have to be cut, he decides. The first thing about convincing yourself you're fine is convincing everyone else, and the way to do that is to look the part.

Melody - Untitled Young POV, part of on your hands and your knees, do you feel in charge? series (SGU)

David doesn't say anything, just takes the earbud from his far ear and offers it to Young. Sure, Young thinks as he takes it, he could go for some companionable silence right now, with one of the few people in the universe he feels at ease enough to do that with. Classical music washes over him, pianos and violins winding together to create a sorrowful melody. It surprises Young. David's favourite type of music is country, and has been since they met. Young prefers jazz but not by much, so he'd always been happy for their road trips to be backed by southern drawling.

Tone - What Big Teeth You Have (SGU)

Rush bristled at the aggressive tone. "I have an important update." He brandished his notebook. Young glowered at him. "I am commander of this base." Rush couldn't help but scoff, which admittedly he knew would do him no favours. "I don't know if you've noticed, but you haven't exactly made yourself available, have you?" "I don't have to 'make myself available' for you!" Rush couldn't believe the audacity. "That's your job description!"

Voice - Flu O'clock, part of on your hands and your knees, do you feel in charge? series (SGU)

Rush's voice was extremely amused. "Yes, David, somehow I'm aware you're not sleeping with Colonel Young. Without resorting to insults..." His eyes flicked towards Young's unconscious form. "He is possibly the straightest person I've ever had the misfortune of meeting."

1. A line about a building

The planet is more boring than Rush had expected. The ruins don't offer any carvings or inscriptions, just a winding set of tunnels that lead to several empty altars. It's most likely some sort of religious building and Rush is staring at one of the empty walls turning over Eli's suggestion about refining the refuelling process to bypass some of the dead conduits that keeps them from filling Destiny's power tanks to capacity when he hears the crash come from below. He's next to the stairs leading up to the surface, a small room holding an altar and then the stairs continue downwards. It smells like an old attic down there but Young had insisted on investigating every crevice on the off chance something useful was lurking in the dark.

2. A sad line

He should feel better, Rush thinks. His knuckles ache and he can still feel Young's solid body giving way beneath his fists. It should be freeing, a release of pent up aggression and hatred and resentment. He shouldn't be still sitting on the floor of the shuttle barely able to stop himself from shaking.

3. A line about a drink

"Yeah. Yeah! Nothing happened. I mean, we've been drinking. One too many, you know how it is, everything gets so--" Rodney blew a raspberry. "Beer does this. Beer's the enemy of comfortable social situations, I've always said it."

4. A line about the weather

A blue sky coalesced in his vision, blurry and too bright by far, causing his eyes to immediately begin to water.

5. A line about plants

When it had started he had thought of Park, down by the tree groves they'd found. She didn't like earthquakes. He couldn't remember when he'd heard that.

Hi! Happy STS!

My favorite part of writing is when things click into place and a small detail I put in the story for no particular reason starts to have a meaning. Can you remember such an experience with your writing and could you share a detail that later became important?

I have definitely been lucky enough to have this feeling before. The most recent one I can think of happened while I was working on Home is Where Your Light Shines Brightest. It was my first attempt at a real slow burn that took a lot of time to develop. I found that with all the planning and outlining, a lot of the small details and little recurring themes lined up several times and it was really satisfying :)

WIP question: If you could choose ONE au fanfic to be written based on your wip what kind of AU it would be? (@winglesswriter)

We'd all love to see a College AU and Bookstore AU

Madie said she has already started some of her own college AU and she would rather write it herself 😂

Madie also has a modern AU in mind that would become a Coffee Shop AU.

Sarah could make a fucking crazy and super fun road trip AU with their characters.

Madie and Sarah both decided that they could not do a teacher AU because their characters would simply just start fights with each other.

Sarah also said that they would want to rewrite Pride and Prejudice (2005) with their characters.

I actually always wanted the opposite to happen for mine, where instead of AUs of my story, I want Paragon AUs for other fandoms 😂

And we would all have fans who wanted to write "Nothing Bad Happens" AUs which we would all support 😆

Ahhhhhhhhh, OC twins! Love it! :D

My Reese actually goes by his last name, since his first name is Ryan. He's an earth element Paragon with a large battle axe weapon. He's the supportive back bone of the faction and he's always looking out for others. He's very patient and kind and he's a big ol' softie, but he's also 6 foot 4 inches and intimidating as hell, at least until you get to know him :)

Thank you for introducing me to STS! My favorite part of writing is when the characters start acting on their own. Do you have such an experience? And if so, can you give an example of when your characters surprised you? @winglesswriter

Hello! I'm glad I was able to introduce you to the event XD thank you for participating with me!

The most common thing characters do without my permission is turn what I think is going to be a short, simple interaction into a long, more in-depth conversation.

The first example that comes to mind was the second chapter of Home is Where Your Light Shines Brightest. I don't want to get into details (spoilers), but it was fun and I learned a lot from writing it 😆

I like to think I am? I don't really use anything that tracks my typing is words per minute or anything, but I think I type faster than the average person and due to my job I'm learning how to type while still making eye contact with someone and holding a conversation 😂

📺- would you watch your wip on a movie?

If I'm being honest, I think Paragon would make a better TV series? A movie would be too watered down to fit everything into two hours. I would, however, watch if it were a show!
