Just. The fact that I need to make the original novels less gay in order to write gay fanfic.
Brought to you by me wanting them to pine while being separated in the books and not, as in canon, kiss. This is now a kiss on the cheek. They will pine.

I've been listening to ABBA lately and I found that almost all of the songs fit to one of Karl May's stories one way or another. Most are just based of vibes, but then Lay All Your Love On Me came up.
You know, the one that has the lines
You've heard me saying that smoking was my only vice
and
A little small talk, a smile, and baby I was stuck
also don't forget
I used to think I was sensible
It makes the truth even more incomprehensible
last, but by no means least
Now every woman I see is a potential threat
I'll be damned if this isn't a near perfect POV for OS after meeting Winnetou for the first time in Winnetou 1. I mean, OS literally writes that smoking is his only vice. It also implies a bit of internalized homophobia, as there are now other "vices". The second line I pointed out refers to love at first sight, which does appear in the book. The third goes in the same direction, astonishment at oneself for ones emotions. The last line made me think of how uncomfortable OS became when he was told about Ribanna.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
