The idea that freedom comes from disentangling from phenomena is fantasy.
This reverses causality. You are not unfree because you are entangled with sensations, thoughts, and drives. You are unfree when you misunderstand how they operate and therefore act blindly under their influence. Spinoza’s freedom is not transcendence; it is adequate understanding of necessity. There is no “above” or "outside" the clouds. There is only clearer mapping of the weather system you are already inside.
So is transcendence by extracting the self from phenomena possible? No. What is possible is a reduction of false identification, a weakening of compulsive self-narratives, and an increase in causal literacy about how thoughts, affects, and behaviors arise. That is not mystical, and it is not liberation from phenomena. It is improved navigation within them. Calling this “transcendence” is rhetorical inflation.
