She can feel the other's eyes on her, and pointedly tries not to meet them. The child's blunt attitude strikes her as amusing, gaze shifting to the earmuffs held in the young man's hand. She certainly doesn't expect him to turn and offer them over to her so easily and it shows in the way her tight expression loosens a fraction. Without thinking Nicolette accepts the item and assess it before commenting, ❝ He's right. They're hideous. ❞
The insult holds no bite as she looks towards the child, nodding in agreement. Still, there's a softer edge to the smile on her lips as she gratefully slips them over her ears. Warmer already.
The two begin to argue and Nicolette can't help but breath a short laugh. ❝ Is this your little brother? ❞ It makes sense— they look so alike and he arrived with a gift ( that now sits on her head ). That has to be the answer, because what she saw— thinks she saw— in the woods... the alternative makes her stomach twist into knots, heavy with anxiety. Maybe that's why she doesn't think to argue when the kid makes the offer, mechanically standing and making her way over. Nicolette takes a seat on the floor near him, but makes no move to grab the blanket. ❝ Well, I didn't think you'd be such a little gentleman— you sure you wanna be so generous? Not worried I might steal it? ❞
