Winter harvest! Got a little gift from some pine trees at the nature playground today. I was sure to leave plenty behind for the trees, but I still came away with a pretty good amount. I wasn’t prepared to carry home a sticky ball of sap, but it smells amazing, and rubbing a little oil on my fingers cleaned me up without too much fuss. Im thinking I’ll make it into all into salve this weekend. I have always had such an affection for black cottonwood trees and now that I’ve learned to use their buds as medicine, I am even more in love. Last year I infused several oils with the sticky bud and added it to a wonderful salve that has really saved my poor overworked wrists. These buds come at the perfect time, right when winter is dragging on and I want nothing more than to be picking spring flowers. One of the best parts about these pungent buds is that you can literally just pick them up off the ground. Winter wind storms make for an abundant harvest.
