David raises an eyebrow, wondering why you said her name with so much emphasis. He takes a moment to size you up, figure out why you're asking and why it matters to you. You do seem a bit familiar...ah, right. You're a 'fan' of his relationship with Lil...Logan. Well. Probably just harmless curiosity then. It's not an odd question to ask considering the circumstances of Lilian's death and the...impact it had on him.

"I would still be married to her, I suppose," he says, as if he hasn't played out that fantasy over and over again in his mind. As if he has not scripted out his apologies and promises to change for a woman that was never coming back. "There was some tension between us before she died--" Tension is a bit of an understatement. She cheated on him with Marian Bornachi of all people. But...she was manipulated. Used. That's what the Bornachis do. He can't blame his poor Lilian for being a victim. And of course, he wouldn't blame himself for just taking the necessary measures to keep Lilian from running off with their child. Easier to blame the child... "--but nothing that we could not work out. Especially for our daughter's sake." He smiles at the thought, his dream of them being a happy family. The first happy family he would ever have.

"And with Lilian there to guide her, Lily would have much better chances at finding her Final Husband. I would not have to take on that burden." A burden that comforted him and cared for him, that would not leave him like Lilian did. But if he could be cared for by Lilian still, well...he could let Lily go. He didn't have to hold onto her if Lilian was there to hold. Although, he had to admit...things were much easier with Lily. She was so much more obedient, so eager to please him and earn his love. Nothing like Lilian, who had a mind of her own and a defiant side that he could not control. Not without making her afraid. Maybe that's why Lily was better different.

Just how far along is Mechfia's technology in-universe? Is it possible to create artificial intelligence or artificial life forms of any kind? What about cloning? Gene modification? I'm uh. Curious. Just asking for a friend.....

I just thought of the must gut wrenching davgan scenario, but I don't know if it would actually be Possible....

MECHFIA had a technologically advanced era called the AI Romantic, in which AI was worshipped as gods...but that was all lost after the Submersion, when every continent on Earth became swallowed by the now deadly acidic oceans.

what you see now in Zona isn't a technologically advanced world, but one dependent on alien lifeforms, primarily synctate and synforms (creatures that manifest due to synctate). to answer your questions:

it is not possible to create or power AI with synctate. even if it was, it would never be allowed due to the worship of AI being blamed for the Submersion.

gene modification is used in certain ways (like for aesthetic changes in Zone 4), but that knowledge is closely guarded by the Society. as of now, they can only make temporary modifications before the synctate detects them as a danger and reverts them back.

cloning has proven to be incompatible with synforms (at least so far, otherwise food shortages wouldn't be as much of an issue) and cloning humans poses the same issue as genetic modification, in that one's synctate is highly resistant to anything it sees as a danger to its host. and ofc the synctate cannot be removed because the human needs it to live.

i have a feeling this scenario might not be possible, but i'd still be curious to hear it. 👀
