“Y/N?” Elsie questioned, groggily.
Humming in response, you walked into the shared room of two of the young girls in the orphanage.
“Promise you won’t forget us?”
Sitting beside Elsie, you ran your fingers through her hair.
“Course not munchkin.” You replied softly. “I could never forget you.”
“Will you write us?” Holly piped in.
Humming in response, you tucked both girls in, before tip toeing out of the room. Taking a final gaze at their small sleeping figures, you shut the door softly. Grabbing your packed bags, you hastily left the orphanage. You had been there since you could remember, with no memory of your family or your last name.
Fidgeting with your necklace, you stood at the ticket booth contemplating your next move.
“Next.” The booth clerk spoke. Causing the line to move.
“Next.”
It was your turn before you knew it.
“Next.”
“Next!” The clerk spoke impatiently pulling you from your day dreams.
“Uh...One ticket to...to...” It dawned on you that you didn’t have place to go.
“Mommy! Mommy!” A small girl exclaimed nearby, yanking on her mothers pant leg. “She looks like the missing Duchess.” She spoke pointing at you.
Everyone near you, turned gaping.
Your palms began sweating, as you glanced around at the series of unknown eyes gazing at you. Spinning promptly on your heel, you attempted to make a hasty getaway. A firm grip grasped your elbow preventing you from progressing any further. Tugging you along, into a dimly lit area, you were face to face with a soft face.
“Go to Stark Tower in Manhattan and ask for Bucky.” She simply stated, without offering any further explanation, she was gone as quickly as she’d come.
“Wait-” You turned to gaze toward the “How’s Bucky?” You questioned voice barely above a whisper to nobody in particular.
Grasping your map, you stood in front of a building that read ‘Stark Tower’. Walking through the halls aimlessly, you gazed out of the windows. The view was of the New York skyline.The sunset illuminating behind the skyscrapers.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” A tall built blonde questioned joining you. “It reminds you just how beautiful nature is for those who stop and appreciate it.”
You hummed in response.
“Sorry, I’m Steve.” He greeted extending his hand towards you.
Summary: Steve and Bucky teach the reader how to be royalty, but their plans reach a little hitch when they have to take a boat to Paris.

“Can you not do that?” You snapped toward Bucky.
“Do what?” He questioned perplexed.
“That thing with your mouth.”
“You mean talking?”
“It’s making me upset.”
Bucky let out a huff in annoyance. Opening the sleeping car door, making sure to slam it as he left.
Unbeknownst to you, Steve had secretly been keeping score between you and Bucky everytime you bickered. The longer Bucky was gone, the more your eyes grew heavy, in desperate need of sleep.
It felt like minutes before Bucky returned.
“Guys.” He stated, panic evident in his voice. Shutting the door, he turned to see both you and Steve sleeping on the seats of the train. “Guys!” He exclaimed startling both you and Steve awake.
“What the fuck?” Both you and Steve groaned.
“There’s something wrong with the train.” Bucky simply stated, gathering your belongings.
“What do you mean?” Steve questioned in his serious voice.
“I...I don’t know.”
Before, anyone had a chance to say anything the train jerked aggressively causing you to stumble into Bucky. Grabbing his biceps, you gazed out of the window, while Bucky did the same, his hands landing on your hips. The train had been traveling at an alarming rate.
“Steve, hand me the chain!” Bucky said while under the car. The train car was speeding down the tracks.
“Here.” You stated handing it to him.
“Wh-”
“Steve’s a little busy at the moment.” You stated, quickly glancing at Steve attempting to mess with the break.
Once he was done, Bucky reached for your hand. Surprisingly to him, you were strong enough to help him back onto the train. Pulling him back up to safety, your chests brushed against one another, as you shared an intimate gaze.
Summary: Bucky was lost and did not know what to do after a catastrophy hit his life as well as yours.
Y/N: you may know this song by Pearl Jam, “Last Kiss.” Well, if you know the song, you also know what this story is about. If you do not know it, I tell you that this fic is pure angst.

Another night, a different bar, the fifth drink.
Bucky was lost in his thoughts, sat on the bar counter, staring at his own hands. By now, alcohol had made effect on his mind so, his thoughts were not clear at all. But his memory was intact. What an irony that was, since he was drinking to forget, but his mind did not let him.
A couple of drinks more and half an hour later, the situation changed for worse. Because of a misunderstanding, Bucky was on the back part of the bar, bleeding; two men, who were as drunk as Bucky, were hitting him.
Two men hitting a solitary man who couldn’t react, whose strenght was not enough to defend himself.
“This will end soon,” he thought. “In a moment, I won’t feel anything else.” This thought calmed him down.
The fatter man with the beard was the one who hit Bucky for the last time: Bucky was against one of the walls and this man hit him hard on the nose.
“That’s enough, Robert,” the younger man told the fatter one. “Come on, he had enough.”
Ten seconds later, Bucky was alone in the middle of the night, bleeding from his nose, from his bottom lip, from his forehead. However, the hits were not enough to get what Bucky wanted: to be killed. He let himself fall into the cold and dirty floor.
And he cried. He cried as he had not cried in weeks. He wanted to die, and he thought that these two were going to be his death angels. But they failed. “These fucking assholes failed,” he thought as he cried because of pain and of rage.
The memories he had been trying to hide and bury deep on his mind reappeared as an object that is not seen, but from one moment to another, is floating on the sea.
“And well, were are you taking me?” you asked as you hugged Bucky from behind.
“I cannot tell you, sorry. You will have to come with me if you want to know,” he answered as he turned around and faced you.
“But this is all about the outfit, Bucky. How could I know if what I am wearing is fine?”
“Come on, Y/N, you are beautiful like this,” he said as he tucked your hair behind your ear.
You smiled at his words and at his delicate movements. “Ok, I believe you.”
“So, we better go now; the sooner we leave home, the sooner you will know where we are going,” Bucky said as he grabbed the car keys from the table of the dining room.
It was a nice day, the sun was falling and the neighbourhood was quiet. The kids who normally played at the street weren’t there, they were at home watching a movie. The house in front of yours was in silence too, which was weird since there was a couple with their non-stop-crying first baby. The panorama showed it was going to be an awesome night.
When you were two blocks away from home, you turned on the radio of the car and selected your favourite station. The journey was perfect since the music both of you liked was filling the air of the car.
Bucky took one of the freeways to avoid all the traffic lights and to get earlier to the ‘secret’ destiny. There were just a few cars ahead of you, and one of them changed to your lane.
You looked at him and smile, “thank you for whatever place you are taking me to.”
He was happy to hear those words, “you are gonna like it a lot, I promess,” he told you, looking at you for less than a second.
When his eyes were put back on the freeway, Bucky did not have time to react, nor he had enough space to slow the car down. The car that was in front of you completely stopped, all of the sudden.
Bucky gasped and his immediate reaction was to swerve to the right as to avoid crushing with the car. He did avoid crushing the car, but he could not avoid the bumps along the road berm.
The most terrifying noises Bucky could ever imagine became your “soundtrack” right now: the tires, the glasses exploding, the roof and doors deforming with each bump, but the most horrifying sounds Bucky has ever heard were your screams. The scene seemed endless for you and Bucky, until it stopped.
The car ended up upside down, and it was destroyed -as well as the two passengers in it.
After a while, Bucky woke up. He could hear the sirens of what seemed the police? the ambulance? He was not sure. At first he did not understand much what was going on, until he remembered the disaster that had occured. And he remembered you were by his side; that is why he looked at his right.
There you were, with your eyes closed, but still breathing, or trying to. Everytime you inhaled, you did it slowly because it hurted like hell. And you exhaled.
“Y/N,” Bucky said in a low voice.
You turned your head to the left and you cannot believe this was happening. You were in a car that looked like garbage from the outside, and you were prisoners in it. Every inch of your body, and you were sure Bucky’s body as well, hurted. You tried to smile, but you did not know if you could transmit the gesture to Bucky. You wanted to speak, even though you could barely breath. So, you inhaled as much as you could and said: “please, Bucky, hold me for a while.”
You knew what was going to happen, and you were afraid of going to whatever-place-you-were-supossed-to-go alone.
Bucky did his best to move and accomodate his body so he could hold you, hug you. Fortunatelly, he could and you were now in his arms. He moved the hair that was in your face and looked at you, crying. For a moment, you shared a look that Bucky would not forget in a thousand years. Without thinking, he kissed you. He kissed you as he was trying to give you more air, more life. And you kissed him.
Of all the kisses both of you have shared, you would have never thought the last one was going to be mixed with tears, blood, with the smell of gasoil, with sirens in behind.
You kissed him until Death took your breath away.
And he knew you were gone, but he did not accept it. Bucky hold you even tighter, but there was no return.
“But now she’s gone, even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life that night.”
And here he was, playing that awful and chaotic day in his mind over and over again, like a broken CD that repeats a part of a song endlessly.
Tho months have passed and the wound is still open, still bleeding.
Two months and the heart of the man who lost his life was still beating, but not with the same intensity as before.
Two months have passed and Bucky could not tolerate the idea of keep living without you; he could not tolerate the idea of living this life sober, so he hid behind a bottle of beer, or a glass of a stronger drink, every night.
Two months have passed and nor Bucky nor you got to destiny.
Summary: you are the unofficial editor of Bucky’s writings. One day, you discover, in his computer, a document with your nickname.

'Ok, you know where everything is. And you know, you have total freedom to tell me what you think about these chapters.’
'There are no worst editors or literary critics than me, uh?’
'That is the reason why I don’t fear them, Y/N.’
You laugh at his comment. 'Bucky, I have to go back to work. See you later.’
'Bye Y/N, and thank you.’
'It is nothing, you dork. Bye.’
You had a really intense and stressful day at work, but you have been extremelly happy since now, you are going to Bucky’s apartment to read the new chapters of his book. Being friends for decades, you are the person Bucky trusts the most and you are 'his best (and worst) critic,’ as he tells you. He trusts in your points of view and in your common sense.
Bucky is at a meeting now so, you are alone at his apartment, (of course that after all these years of friendship, you already have a copy of his keys.)
The typical smell of his apartment welcomes you, as well as Molly, his cat. You put your coat and purse on one of the couches, pick the cat up in your arms and walk towards the study room. Once in there, you turn on the computer and, while you wait for it to be completely loaded, you play with Molly. 'How is this beauty? How? Oh, you are so sweet,’ you 'tell’ Molly as you caress him.
When you check the computer, it is already loaded; so, you let Molly be free again and you sit on the comfortable black leather chair in front of the computer. You already even know where Bucky keeps the book he is writing; you go to 'Documents’ > 'Books’ > 'My writings’ > 'Oblivious: Part 3.’
He has written three chapters since the last time you came, and really good ones. It is incredible how Bucky can make you laugh even if he is not with you, and just by writing a few lines in what it seems a neverending story.
You mark a few things that you -as a reader and not being related to the world of literary edition- consider to be changed, and they are accompanied by sidenotes you write with your typical way of talking or writing to Bucky, like: 'Hey Tin Arm, just make sure to describe this a little bit more because I want to know more about their relationship. Don’t be so lazy and write! That is why you are paid for.’
After an hour and a quarter of being the 'unqualified literary editor,’ you consider your work done and you close the document. Before leaving, you check the section of his documents that is called 'books’ so as to know what book you can read next on your own. Among the long list of books like: 'Pet Sematary - Stephen King,’ 'Brave New World - Aldoux Huxley,’ 'The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho,’ there is a Word document with the name 'Doll.’ You find it strange and curiosity invades you since that is how Bucky calls you and only you. You start thinking 'should I open it?’ 'No! Don’t you dare, this is his computer and his private stuff!’ 'Yes, open it and just see what it is in there.’ Your last thought wins.
You opens the document and what you read leaves you with your mouth open and with tears in your eyes.
'I feel a dork doing this, but I am good with words and I can express my feeling properly when writing.
Y/N, I love you, and I love you more than in a friendly way. Time and relationships have passed and you were the only who have always been by my side and who have believed in me, even when I decided I wanted to be a writer.
It was hard to be without you that year you lived in Los Angeles, but I am so glad you are back in New York, in our city. I realized the moment you left that I was in love with you. I took your presence for granted, but when you left, this place it was a dark and boring hole.
I know what you are afraid of, what you love, the music that calms you down, your favourite writer -me,- but I want to share all of those things with you, I want to live them with you, by your side.
Now that I think, I don’t even know why I am writing this if there is no possibility I am going to show this to you; I guess I need to just tell my feelings to someone but I don’t want a feedback; that is why I am writing this on the computer, surely. Anyway, I love you and I think I always will.’
You re-read Bucky’s confession again, and again and again. You are in the ninth cloud right now. You don’t think it twice and you start tiping right below his writing.
'Doll, I am going home now. Are you still there?’
'Hi Bucky. Nope, I am on my way home now, but I wanted to ask you if it is ok if we meet tomorrow? We have not seen each other for a week I think.’
'Sure! No problem with that.’
'Ok, thanks Bucky. Oh, I did not turn off the computer so you can see all my corrections and notes. But they are pretty well, Barnes. You never disappoint me.’
'I am glad to hear that Doll.’
'Ok, see you tomorrow Bucky. I hope you like my notes. Bye.’
'Thank you, Y/N. Take care, bye.’
Bucky gets home and he walks directly towards the study room. He sits on the chair and he sees that the document of his book is open. He laughs at many of your sidenotes, as always, and he promesses that tomorrow morning, he will change the things you told him to. When he finishes reading the corrections, he closes the document and when he closes it, it appears the one called 'Doll.’ He almost faints when he realized you have read it. But Bucky is much more better after he reads your answer.
'Really? You are talking to a computer about your feelings, you dork? I knew you were weird from the moment I met you, but I did not know you are extremelly weird; I am sure not even Tony Stark would confess his feelings to a bunch of circuits.
I came to this document by chance, please, don’t think I am always spying your private documents; it was a complete accident, and I could not avoid open it when I saw how it is called. But if it helps you to not get mad, I am happy to have opened it.
I am not that sentimental as you and I am not as good as you are with words, but I will try my best in here.
I love you too, Bucky, but not as you love me. Sorry.
You are the king of dorks if you think I would leave the message there. Of course I love you much more than in a friendly way. And I am extremelly in love with you, with your arm made of tin, with all of you.
I missed you too when I went to Los Angeles, but I had to return -not because of you, of course- but there was no way I could be one more day in that hot city and not in my frozen New York, in our city, as you said.
Ok, this is getting way too cheesy and I think that the best for both of us is to talk. Maybe you arrive home at any time and I am still here writing this to you (and that would be an embarrasing moment.)

‘How was your date?’ Wanda asked you as you waited for the elevator.
‘It was ok, Alan is a good man.’
‘But?’ Wanda interrupted you; she knew you well enough to know that there was a ‘but.’
‘But, you know Wan, I am not interested in starting a relationship now. I mainly went because of Nat, she insisted me on going. I think I did it for her, not for me.’
The elevator was finally on your floor and you got in. ‘It is ok, Y/N. Maybe it is not the time yet, but remember that six months have passed.’
You looked at her and gave her a sad smile, ‘yes, I know. I am still trying to move on. And I appreciate what you girls are doing for me.’ You took a deep breath and continued, ‘ok, let’s leave behind my sad love life and tell me what are you going to wear tomorrow for Sam’s birthday, because I still don’t know.’
'Oh, I bought this amazing scarlet dress. It is simple. Wait, I have a pic here.’ As Wanda looked for the picture onher cellphone, you two got out of the elevator and started walking towards the front door of the building.
Wanda gave you the phone to look at the dress. 'It is beautiful Wan! I love it!’ You made zoom on the picture to take a look at the details. 'Wow, look at those pearls in the waist.’
'Thank you, I can borrow it to you whenever you want.’
'I wanted to hear that coming out from your mouth!’ You both laughed. 'Ok,’ you looked at your watch, 'I guess I see you tomorrow.’
'Yeah, see you tomorrow.’ You two hugged, 'you deserve to be happy, Y/N.’
Even though you just left your workplace, you did not want to go home. Maybe it was because it was Friday, and you knew that you had a weekend ahead of you to rest.
You decided that you were going tomorrow morning to buy clothes because now, you wanted to enjoy a hot coffee from Starbucks. Luckily, it was just three blocks away so, you did not have to walk much. Still, you liked walking the streets of New York. You were so grateful of living in 'the best city of the world,’ that you could not complain. Yeah, sometimes the noise may be fatal for your ears, but after all, New York was your city and you would not have changed it for anything. The same with its people; you had incredible friends and you had had a love that you still couldn’t forget.
Luckily, there were no so many people on Starbucks so, you bought quickly. When you left the coffeeshop, your feet were in control of your body; it seemed your mind could not control them. You knew where you were going, but you could not stop. West side community garden. You have not gone there since you and Bucky broke up, six months ago. But today, it seemed the place was calling you. You have avoided the garden because it was your place with Bucky.
You used to come to the garden when you wanted to disconnect from the internet, from your cellphones and the constant sounds of notifications, from the world. Most of the times, you did not even talk to each other; your fingers intertwined and your head on his shoulder, while you were sit on the stairs looking at the magnific colours of the flowers, surrounded by people reading or talking, or hearing the children playing were enough for both of you. It was enough to know that you had each other.
And once again, here you were. You started walking slower, like if you did not know the place. A smile appeared on your face when you realized it looked exactly the same as when you used to come with Bucky. Actually, you smiled because now you vividly remembered your days in this garden.
You saw the place in which you used to sit and, here he was. Bucky. You could only see his back, but you knew him well enough to be sure he was the one on your place. You were paralyzed because you did not know what to do. Your mind started working faster to make a decision. But it was your heart which made you start walking towards Bucky.
'Hey,’ you said with a smile on your hace as you sit by his side.
It seemed Bucky was lost on his own thoughts, but your voice brought him back to reality. He saw you and his eyes started to shine. 'Hey.’
'I did not know you still come.’
'Yes, I never stopped coming. I did not want to lose this place, our place to sit.’ You laughed at his comment but your mind was conscious of him saying 'our place’ and you knew this was not over. 'What happened to us?’ He asked, all of a sudden.
You bit your lower lip thinking about his question. 'Our works, Bucky. You know how I am with work, and I know how you are. We just did not find time for the other anymore. Our schedules mattered much more than our relationship.’ You stopped talking for a moment, and then you continued: 'but I miss you. I still miss you.’ You did not know how he was going to react or what he was going to say, but you needed to express your feelings towards him; it was so much the time wasted, that you needed him to know what was happening on your inside.
Bucky smiled showing that all this time, he had wanted to hear those words coming out from your mouth. All this time, he had hope he would find you here. He covered one of your hands with his. 'You are right and I missed you too, a lot. Let- let’s try this again. What do you say?’ There was faith in his eyes.
'And what if it does not function, again?’
'But now we know our weakness; all these months I have worked as if I were the only employee in the office, but it has been because I did not want to think about you, I wanted to hide my pain. I cannot allow myself to lose you again, Y/N.’ Bucky cup your face with his hands and you closed your eyes. You felt his lips touching yours and electricity ran all over your body. He kissed you slowly but with conviction, as if he was trying to say 'sorry’ but showing he would not let you go again.
This time, Bucky and you would make sure your schedules were not more important than your relationship; and now, you would make sure that everytime you visited West side community garden, you came together as a couple.
Summary: nobody is in the tower except for Bucky and you who decide to play a game in which both of you seem to win.

The tower is in complete silence. Bucky has gone out and you just return from the grocery. Everyone else is abroad so, Bucky and you are the only ones in the tower, which now seems a castle just for both of you.
You play your favourite music in the home theater of the living room to avoid the deadthly silence of home. Keeping the products you have bought is much more easier and quickly since you do it at the rhythm of the music.
The city is already under the dark sky of the night when Bucky returns home.
‘Hey, should I load the chapter?’ Bucky asks you when he goes to look for you at the kitchen.
‘Bucky! I did not know you have arrived. Yes, I am going.’
Five minutes later, Bucky and you are in the couch with a huge blanket on you watching the second season of ‘The Blacklist.’ Out of the record, you have to admit that the voice of the actor, James Spader, reminds you of the voice of the electronic monster, Ultron. What a coincidence.
Time passes and none of you is bored, but you are already hungry since you have devoire this season of the series.
‘I have an idea,’ you say as you get up from the couch, ‘let’s play a game: I give you food and you have to guess what you are eating.’
'Ha, you are the only one that comes with ideas like these. Ok, that sounds funny.’
'Of course it is funny! Come on, sit in the dining room. I will prepare everything.’
As you gather all the food from the kitchen, Bucky is already in the dining room.
You go running to your bedroom to look for a scarf. 'Put this around your eyes,’ you tell Bucky and give the blue scarf to him. 'Do not cheat.’
'No, I promiss I won't.’
'Ok, here we go. Just one clue Bucky, all I have on the table is sweet.’
The minutes pass and Bucky tastes and guesses a cheese cake, donuts, a mix of chocolate and rocklets, among other sweet food.
An idea crosses your mind while you are thinking what to give Bucky next. Both of you are actually having a really good time while playing this game and you do not wanna screw it up, so you do not know if you should do it or not. The room is in complete silence now, you are standing there, biting your bottom lip while your mind is a constant: 'yes! Do it’ and 'no! Just forget about this fucking idea.’
'Doll? Is everything ok? Are you still there or am I talking to the air as a complete asshole?’ Bucky’s voice takes you back to reality.
'Eh? No, no Bucky, I am here. I was just thinking. Ok, this is the last mouthful of the night.’ You say as you ignore that part of your mind that is telling you not to do it. 'I hope you like it,’ you whisper. Very slowly, you get closer to Bucky until your lips are practically touching. Taking courage from you do not know where, you crush your lips on his and, a moment later, you apart from him.
Bucky is quiet and with his mouth open, still processing what has just happened. However, he answers naturally: 'I think I want to taste that again.’
You laugh when you hear his comment and you immeadiately sit on his lap. 'Are you- are you sure?’
'I have never been so sure in my life,’ Bucky answers as he takes the scarf off his eyes. He touches your lips with his thumb and looks at you. You have no time to think because he cups your face with his hands rapidly and now is Bucky who kisses you. The crush of lips is passionate but sweet at the same time.
'This is better than what I have imagined Doll. You taste much better than all this food by the way,' Bucky tells you as he leans your forehead against yours and he plays with your hair.
Summary: Bucky starts dreaming about a girl he knew at HYDRA. However, she is not just another girl; she has a past with the Avengers, especially with one of them.

There she goes, walking by the other side of the street. I can see her, but I cannot do anything else. I try to say her name out loud, but my voice does not come out. I try to reach her, but she is always a step forward. I do not know what else to do to warn her about the danger that is just around the corner.
Again. Bucky wakes up wet because he has been sweating as he dreams. Again. Bucky dreams about her. Again. Bucky does not know what to do and it is hard for him to go back to sleep.
It has been two months since Bucky was brought to the tower with the rest of the Avengers. Two months in which lot of hard mental and physical work has been done not only by him but by the rest of the team, especially Tony, Bruce, Steve and Wanda. But it has been a week and a half since Bucky started dreaming about this girl. Bucky knows that it is a challenge to sleep again so, instead of laying in his bed, he gets up and goes to the kitchen. He sits in the island of the kitchen with a glass of water in his hands. He tries to remember, to remember that face with which he dreams about.
The first brainwash, the worst. It cannot be denied that everytime you are sit on the brainwash machine, you are terrified. But the very first time you sit in it, neither you nor your fear is under control. And Bucky can see it in her eyes. Her eyes have so much life. If she could, she would scream through them. Yet, her eyes show no more life after being brainwashed. She just stares at the door of the laboratory, but actually, her mind is not there. She is not there anymore. The girl that entered here three minutes ago is gone and it has been replaced by an emotionless ghost. ‘Bucky? Bucky?
Hey Bucky?’ Bucky comes back from the bottom of his mind and he sees Steve is in front of him.
‘Are you OK? I suppose it was you when I saw light under my door.‘
‘I just remember,’ Bucky starts walking around the kitchen, ‘Steve, I remember the girl. I knew I know her from somewhere.‘
'What? What girl?’ 'I have been dreaming with a girl and now I know. She was brought after I was to the same HYDRA base I was in. She-it seemed she knew how to fight, she put so much resistance the day they brainwashed her for the very first time.'
Steve was speechless and his eyes wide open, 'Bucky, w-what was her like?’ Steve is afraid of hearing Bucky’s answer.
Bucky describes her appearance and Steve leaves the kitchen. He comes back with something in his hand. 'Is she the girl you are talking about? Is Y/N the girl you saw in that base?’ Steve has a mix of feelings.
Steve gives the photograph to Bucky and as soon as he looks at it, Bucky answers: 'yes Steve, that is her.’
