         Memories came back in fragments.  The more time he spent around Bucky the more vivid they became.  Only, Steve - that was his name, wasn’t it? - found himself confused by the shifts in timeline.  A lot of what he remembered felt old.  Distant.  Brooklyn was younger.  None of the buildings lined up with what he’d seen before he fled the States.  In fact, a lot of them looked as they did in the Smithsonian when he dared to walk around the advertised Captain America exhibit.  Were the memories from back in the war?  Was that even possible?

          Leaving Bucky behind felt like a betrayal, thought he wasn’t sure why.  It simply felt like the right thing to do.  People kept coming after him which, by default, meant people were coming after the person who claimed to be his friend.  There was a small box he managed to steal.  Nothing much.  When he’d finally made it to an abandoned Romanian safe house in Bucharest Steve allowed himself to go through the several items he’d managed to salvaged from his past.  He was sitting at the tattered island table with a few plums when wood from the door splintered inward.  On instinct, Steve reached for a knife and held it defensively in front of him.   //   @wintervclk liked the s.c.

          He’d shot fury.  He sent Steve into an emotional spiral at the drop of a hat.  Maria didn’t even want to think about the Triskelion incident.  But, when she received reports that James Barnes had been defrosted in Wakanda she needed to see for herself what the effects were.  It would be good information one way or another.

          There was also the simple fact that Maria wanted to make sure he was okay.  Barnes was a hero who was dealt a terrible series of circumstances.  Whatever anyone else felt, she wanted to respect that fact.  Whether he knew it or not he was a foundation piece for the organization she’d dedicated her life to.

           Dressed simply in jeans, a t-shirt, and black combat boots, Maria weaved her way through a number of goats with a box of pizza held between both of her hands.  Not her usual greeting but, then, who didn’t like pizza?   //   @wintervclk liked the s.c.

Rain pelted against her umbrella as she made her way down the street. She kept to the side, walking briskly against the stone while she kept her eyes on the target that was only a few yards away. She had their scent though, but the downpour wasn’t helping a damn thing. Sarah clutched the handle and let out a breath of annoyance. She didn’t want to spook him, but she needed to convince the fellow to come and assist the other members of the pack.  The scientist’s work was worth their weight in vibranium, and this was one of her first missions alone. A small radio was nestled into her pocket in case things turned to trouble, but as she moved through the darkened streets she noted another scent that cut through the drops of rain; familiar. Which, was impossible to her mind.  She tucked more of her face beneath the scarf as she waited on the flow of foot traffic to change. Curiosity caught the better of her. She still wasn’t going to lose Abraham’s former coworker, but with several swift strides she made her away across the street. Her heart thudded in her chest as she caught another whiff of the familiar sense on the breeze. She tucked herself underneath the awing of the local jewelry store. Her voice died in her throat as she caught sight of the figure; she’d recognize that face anywhere. James? But how? He had been declared dead.

Steve stands in the doorway. Shifts his weight. Buck said not to tell ‘im, so he won’t -- he’s sure his silence says more than enough, anyway. Well, that, and the bruises that mottle his skin. At this point, he’s learned it’s best not to argue. Once the fight is over, there’s little he can do but allow Bucky to treat his wounds, when they’re as numerous (and brutal) as these. Seeking professional medical help is a pipe dream, after all.

Settling on the edge of the tub as carefully as possible still has him biting the inside of his cheek to fight down a groan of pain. Dammit. “...’ey were bothering Ruth. She’s too timid to speak up for herself, y’know? So I told ‘em to pack it up ‘n hit the road.” Needless to say, it went about as well as expected for Steve.

He reached for the notebook, glancing up at Howard to silently ask permission before taking it to study it more closely. A flying car. A flying car. That was the stuff of science fiction and bad B-movies, and Howard was seriously trying to figure out how to make one. Even just a model one.“Jesus,” Bucky breathed, eyes already shining with eager interest. “You pull this off even with just a model car, you’ll probably be golden if you ever wanted a job with Tesla or somethin’.” He handed the book back and cocked his head. “You thinkin’ like thrusters, VTOL tech? Probably the better way to go, though you’d have to figure out what to do with the tires. Is it gonna be highway capable, or is the garage gonna need a retractable roof?”

Though Howard was playing it VERY cool, he found himself quite eager for Bucky’s opinion on the matter. He seemed to know his stuff and be genuinely interested in what Howard was doing, both of which came as a pleasant surprise. He grimaced a little at the mention of working for Tesla - not that there was anything remotely wrong with that idea, but he always fancied himself the head of his own company. He’d much rather run Tesla into the ground. ❛ Yeah, that was more or less my thought, ❜ he said. ❛ Highway capable... like how some electric cars run on gas too, it’d be multifunctional. The tires would retract up into these hubs here, ❜ he pointed to the spots on the design. ❛ And the mini turbines would come down from there and rotate out. ❜
