Little Things I Think Would Make Episode 19 of the Winx Reboot Better
Disclaimer: Better, not good. These are small changes that would improve the episode without changing too much of the existing episode.
Change the name of the episode. This episode is not about a dark fairy. It is about a fairy who wants to be a witch because she hates Bloom. I don't know how those two things are connected but it makes sense to Diaspro. A better title could be "A Fairy's Woes" or "A Change of Heart" something along those lines that could work for multiple characters in the episode. Diaspro doesn't even become a witch until the very end.
I know this is an episode too late, but I wish Icy was the only one of the Trix expelled. Stormy and Darcy could see Diaspro's outburst and give Icy the heads up to meet her in the woods. Plus it could keep things interesting.
Since they are both taking the same exam, I wish that Fairies/witches/whatever could take the tests against the specialists. Bloom could still be with Diaspro, but it would be cool to see some Fairy vs specialists fights. I think it would be really cute to see Stella and Brandon go up against each other and keep saying "sorry sweetie" after each blast. You could also have Musa, Aisha, or Tecna go up against Darcy or Stormy.
I also do feel like the Diaspro becoming a witch storyline was saved for a future season, but I don't want to commit to changing it yet. It's just that we do have so many villains in this one season: (Vexius, Damien, the Trix, Riven, Mr. Hand Feets) I don't think we need another added in at episode 19.
(Trying to rush through this before I leave for vacation and school starts)
I like that this episode has more of Aisha doing uncanny backflips.
This Chickadee/rooster combination robot tells them that we are haing another test in the simulation room where you are going to fight against someone, but it is also a race. Bloom gets paired up with Diaspro and she is sad :(
More importantly, (in my opinion at least) Stella complains against how it is unfair that she has to go up against a fourth year. So we can say that you go to Alfea for at least four years. I know this probably won't be consistent but still.
Diaspro is back and she is mad. We haven't seen her in several episodes now, but she is back.
The winx go to watch Sky and Rivens test (because the specialists are being given the same test) and Sky and Riven also do backflips.
Sky wins and Riven is sad so Riven tries to beat him up after the test while the winx watch and don't intervene. The teachers also don't intervene.
We finally found out where baby Hand Feets is (with the llamas). I thought we left him on Earth.
Riven and Damien fight and do more backflips. At this point as the person watching, I don't know how much more of this I can take. Also I have no idea what Vexius did to Damien because he is just loyal to him and a little bit more angry. He's not stronger. His mind and actions aren't really being controlled by Vexius like he does with Damien. It's just not really compelling and doesn't make sense.
The winx were going to practice for the test in the simulation room (which they can just do), but instead Bloom brings her clasp that she carries around everywhere and we look at generic photos that can be accessed with the simulation rooms pre war technology. You think one of the winx would recognize something as related to Domino considering it probably used used to be very important but they are all stupid.
Diaspro tells Griffin she wants to be a witch. Griffin tells Diaspro she does not want to talk to her. I can relate to Griffin. Griffin calls Diaspro a "spoiled princess with a mean streak" and this is the best part of the episode. Diaspro is the Mirta of the reboot I guess, which is a downgrade. At least we get told that mean does not equal witch I guess.
Diaspro runs into the woods holding a stick, talking out loud about how she hates Bloom. The Trix show up since they have just been living in the woods apparently.
Instead of Darcy messing with the simulation we have Icy breathing evil onto a gem that Diaspro sticks on the control panel. Also, in order to get Palladium away from the control panel she says "You have to see this, it's amazing" and Palladium just walks away in a random direction. Diaspro didn't even point.
Tecna and Aisha take the test and they decide to tie
Actually Bloom, Diaspro has every reason to think you stole Sky.
Diaspro's pearl net is cooler than any of the winx's spells.
Apparently the proffesors can't hear inside the simulation room because Diaspro very clearly stated that she messed with the test.
They stop the test and instead of Faragonda confronting her student she has the winx go follow Diaspro so she can spend time with Bloom.
Bloom has to rest on the couch in the middle of the Dorm since she still doesn't have a bedroom. At least this is better than Flora, who had to rest in the barn.
Then thanks to Riven's help Damien can sneak in to the winx's dorm and he confronts Bloom with Monsters I think we are supposed to assume are from Omega. Also, I don't know how I'm only realizing this now, but Damien doesn't have spell names like the winx and trix do.
The winx fight but can't save Bloom who is being carried away by Mothman. Luckily the Damien summoned the portal on the other side of the school giving sky just enough time to use his jet pack that he has to save Bloom. Then Bloom and sky both fall to the ground like low quality plastic toys.
Then Diaspro runs to the woods again, become a witch, and won't stop cackling while Griffin realizes she sucks at her job.
Little things I Think Would Make Episode 18 of the Winx Reboot Better
Change the name of the episode. I haven't done one of this in a while, but I really wish the episode title was the "Dome of Light" since I want it to. "Alfea Under Attack" is a good name, but I wish the episode was named after the new spell we learned in this episode.
I wish Bloom didn't bring the Dome of Light spell to Faragonda right away. I wish the Winx wanted to figure out the spell together because they cared for Bloom and their school, not because they wanted to skip class.
I wish The dome of light spell was brought up in an earlier episode. The girls tried it once and failed, and then did it perfectly. I wish it was something they were working on in between episodes. That way it would still seem like a difficult spell.
I wish it was explained why the evil dome didn't effect the winx right away. What if the reason it didn't was because the Winx had practiced the dome of light spell, which is why Faragonda and Griffin also weren't effected. Then they would explain to the winx how they used the Dome of Light before, but no longer can now that their team is gone. This would put pressure on the girls to save the day without it being Faragonda telling Bloom if she can't do a fire spell Alfea will fall. It could also lead to a flashback of the company of light as the Winx for Faragonda and Griffin which could be cool.
Speaking of the random spell Bloom just had to learn at the begining of the episode, I wish Bloom used fire juggling spell in the fight against Damien or something. Show me that the spell is actually important, show me that Faragonda and Bloom's private study sessions are helping her in the fight.
Also I'm not changing with the Riven controlled by Vexius thing yet. I want to try to work with it and see how it plays out, even though having Darcy control Riven is so much better.
I also didn't change the name of the Dome of Light, even though I feel like the name is clunky, but I cant come up with anything better
The episode starts with one of those special training sessions between Faragonda and Bloom as discussed last episode. The training is just Bloom being a fire hazard and almost injuring multiple students. Faragonda does not care about student's safety.
Bloom's friends suck and are watching her fail time and time again to juggle fire fire while defending herself from attacks. I wonder if this will be used in the fight later in this episode? (Spoiler alert, it isn't). Also Stella brings popcorn and it reminds me of how Bloom had never eaten popcorn before in the second episode and makes me mad.
Faragonda also implies that if Bloom doesn't master juggling Alfea will fall.
Then the girls are back in the dorm and are walking off to their rooms we never get to see because we don't want to animate anything. Daphne pulls Bloom into a blue background saving us from having to see Bloom's dorm room. Also Daphne was fine after what happened in episode 13.
The next day Bloom asks Faragonda about the spell Daphne mentions and as Faragonda talks about it they have this flashback in the prettiest 2d animation making the watcher think about what could have been. Also Faragonda has still not explained Daphne to Bloom and has no excuse this time to not tell her they are sisters.
Vexius does something and is more powerful so he glows purple now. Oh no!
The Winx try the dome of light spell and we are given way too many spinny frames.
Purple gets villainized again when Vexius makes a grape flavored dome over Alfea. The dome makes people mean, but not everyone, and not everyone right away. Idk.
We also get some more casual racism against witches thanks to Stella. Faragonda hears this and doesn't correct her student. Also Faragonda flies like a witch in this episode.
Griffin and Faragonda beat up the students. They try to use a tracking spell to find Vexius, but somehow via evil magic Vexius messes the spell up so they are just portaling to random swamps.
I guess the whole point of the evil dome was to make it easier for Damien to sneak into Alfea to...destroy it...for some reason, somehow?
Riven yells about how he was right not to let Damien go. He is 100% correct. Vexius tells Damien that Riven's heart is eager for darkness, but he is under effects of the mean person spell, so isn't everyone. Vexius makes Riven evil to be his spy, which is so much more boring than what happened in the OG series when he was Darcy's spy/boyfriend.
Bloom also has traumatic flashbacks to when she was dark Bloom, which is incredibly relatable because I also have flashbacks to that episode of the reboot. In all seriousness I did like that Bloom has fear of turning back.
Vexius and Damien realize that just because they made the main characters mean, doesn't mean he made the main characters like him.
Bloom uses pura lux provelio to get herself free from Damiens shadow chains even though when Faragonda was teaching them the spell her friends had to stand around giving Bloom energy/magic for the spell to work.
Bloom then turns her friends good again and they cast the pura lux provelio spell to save the day.
Then Riven stumbles back in and we learn he is evil now. Fun
I don't know if I would say this is the worst episode of the reboot (all the episodes suck), but this is definitely the most incoherent, plotless, pile of garbage episode.
First off the show has completely forgotten about baby Hand Feets. The Winx left him in the "woods" to die
The episode starts with the winx and specialist still at the school, but it is day now so I guess they have just been here all night and Damien is on a bench in handcuffs just watching them have fun.
Bloom is laughing and then remembers she is sad because her parents are gone and I am sad that I am watching this show. Damien is also sad but I don't know if that is because of his trauma from Vexius or having to stay up all night in this park being forced to listen to the winx laughing over nothing.
Mitzi then shows up and asks Bloom why she is at school on a Saturday when Bloom hasn't gone to this school for an uncertain amount of time. Mitzi hasn't noticed I guess. Mitzi tell Bloom that she HAS to go to this school social/homecoming dance.
Then everyone pretends the specialists are hot.
Mitzi hands Bloom a poster and the number of posters Bloom has shifts from two to one to zero in every shot of this scene.
Vexius is watching them and is like "Damien probably thinks Bloom is his friend now after keeping him in handcuffs outside of a school all night! I have to stop this!"
Stella tries to make a portal to Cloud Tower, (which they keep calling ground zero which is a choice) and it doesn't work because Vexius is evil and he is at Cloud Tower so the portal explode. yeah.
Also Kudos for Riven for being the only character trying to get rid of Damien. Bloom decides they should just let Damien go because she is stupid. I bet Damien wishes she made this decision last night.
Everyone has forgotten about the new stupid rule that the dragon flame can only be given willingly once so Vexius is trying to get Bloom's flame.
"Your plan is to trade us for the dragon flame, aren't you?" Basic grammar is off the table now.
Damien then talks to Vexius, who is in Cloud tower btw, from earth. Apparently Vexius knows his exact location and makes a portal to Cloud Tower for Damien.
Damien says it isn't right to trade Bloom's parents for the Dragon flame. Robin is there too, so I guess it is okay to trade her for it.
The Winx act like Mitzi is crazy for wanting Sky when Bloom did the exact same thing only Sky had an official girlfriend at the time.
Damien hacked into the owl to tell Bloom to come alone, Stella mispronounces Solaria, and Bloom jumps out of the owl, but unfortunately transforms and doesn't fall to her death.
"Cloud Tower" is actually just the woods of Magix. Also Damien's tragic backstory is that Vexius just found him fully clothed in the woods at age nine.
Bloom calls out "Mom, Dad" and Robin responds with "we are all fine." Bloom does not give a single fuck about Robin's well being this entire episode.
Then Icy shows up and fights Bloom and she is stronger now for no reason. Also she can summon an ice snake now also for no reason. At least I think it is supposed to be a snake. It has spines on its back, but no tiny arms, and I have to assume if they wanted Icy to summon a dragon they would just use another recolor of Bloom/Vexius' dragon.
Bloom does her transformation to her slightly less ugly fairy form again.
The area where Bloom's parents, Robin, and Damien are is set of fire and Bloom only calls out to her parents and Damien. I wonder is they forgot Robin was also tied up when they wrote/recorded this and just had the animators add her in after they realized their mistake.
Vexius also just has Darcy's powers now. He is using telepathy and is influencing people's emotions.
When Damien is watching Bloom with the dragon and has a flashback of her as Vexius with the dragon and that is no joke the only good part of this entire episode.
Damien believes that Bloom is evil after watching her save everyone because he doesn't have a reasonable bone in his body.
During the first batch of episodes I said I wished Damien had unlocked his transformation and I apologize. It is the ugliest thing I have ever seen and they gave Damien Vexius' hair. Also Damien is a better fighter than Bloom.
The episode ends with the girls going to the school dance which has like 12 other people at it tops and the Winx dance because that is what this episode needed
A quick note: Usually after I review an episode of the reboot I do another post about small changes I would make to the episode to make it flow better and make sense. I try to avoid making it a full rewrite and try to stick to the pre existing structure of the episode. It is fun for me and forces me to be creative and try to get people to see that there are good ideas in the episode they are just poorly executed. I am not doing that for this episode. There is absolutely nothing that makes sense in this episode and nothing made sense. It is irredeemable. Besides switching Damiens backstory there is nothing I could come up with to make the episode better without gutting the entire thing. I'm sorry if you were looking forward to that, but it is not happening for this one
Little Things I Think Could Make Episode 14 of the Winx Reboot Better
Disclaimer: These are little things I would change that would not change too much of the already existing episode. This one is a dumpster fire and everything should be changed -- except baby Bloom. That is funny and deserves to stay.
Faragonda should explain the whole backstory of Domino when talking to Bloom. It is the perfect time to. Also, maybe if the stretch the story long enough it can eat into the time they girls are flying and lip syncing to the song
Cut the whole we can't use powers on Earth thing. It is not relevant and does not stop anyone from doing anything except refilling ice cream to screw over a small business. The Winx do use magic and there are no consequences at all, so why even bother with this. It wasn't until the second season of the show when the girls were hanging on earth without people from Magix we even started to worry about this
I think it would have been a cool if Damien heals Flora instead of the soup. Flora can still tell Griselda it was the soup that made her better from who cares disease. It would bring back that the dragon flame has healing abilities but could also show that Damien feels bad and establish that Damien is getting better with the dragon flame. Ideally this would happen after Bloom heals something in a previous episode, but also it could be cool if the flame was not split evenly between Bloom and Damien. Maybe Bloom got the fighting part and Damien got the healing part. idk. Obviously the ideal is Damien does not exist and Helia does, but if this is what I have to work with, it would be a cool idea.
I don't know if this is the case with the other streaming platform the reboot is on, but these six episodes are listed under season two.
I actually like the new intro for these episodes. I can watch it all the way through without being in pain. It uses the transformation song and I like the transformation song.
We start off the episode with some more of that awful flying animation. It is just so unnecessary. It doesn't look good and serves no purpose. Also Bloom and the other girls start lip syncing but is doesn't even remotely sound like their voices.
The dragon of fire < The Great Dragon
We also still don't get any world building
It would have made more sense for Bloom to find she was adopted before she found out Damien was her brother because it just makes Bloom seem really stupid
Now we can not use powers on Earth. Unfortunately this isn't actually a plot point and serves no purpose because that does not stop the characters from using magic in any relevant way and there are no consequences for the magic they do use.
Apparently Flora is still hurt from last time.
The hair does move a little bit now. That's improvement.
Flora is too sick to go to earth but she was allowed to volunteer to take care of the murder llamas.
Flora sat down and everyone is acting like she is dying lol.
Griselda is nice and caring. This will not last until the end of the episode. Remember is the original show she was strict, but did deeply care about the girls? Now she is just a jerk.
The Trix didn't get any sort of punishment for what happened in episode 13 even though it was implied they would. Nepotism I guess?
The Trix didn't want the flame in the first place. Now they do want it to get revenge on Vexius. There are so many villains in this season for no reason and it feels so unorganized.
Oh no! the flame can only be given up willingly once? Sure. This is stupid because by the end of these episodes the flame won't be able to be taken anymore, so what will even be Vexius' motivations in the unreleased episodes? Also Icy's evil laugh got cut off :(
Mike and Vanessa didn't tell Bloom about her adoption because they didn't lol.
Apparently Vanessa has always had a thing for wearing layers of ugly clashing clothes. Also Peters is Bloom's last name in this show.
The burning building is on Hope street. Kill me now.
Mike just jumped up the building like spider man. I'm sobbing.
I know everyone things baby Bloom is ugly and I agree, but I also think she is hilarious. Baby Bloom is peak comedy, you know this right?
Mike just jumped three stories down. This flashback is the best scene in the show. I was so entertained the entire time.
Apparently the reason Mike just walked in and saved Bloom was because the flames guided him to her. I really just thought that the ai writing this forgot that humans need oxygen.
I did really like how Bloom is holding a cosmix doll of herself in Daphne's coloring. I really liked that.
Bloom was crying because of a bruise. Also she managed to get up the stairs with roller skates on.
I did like how Mike and Vanessa looked at each other when Bloom called them by their first names. It felt more natural in this scenario. I also like how this leads directly to the Trix torturing her parents since it acts as the catalyst for Bloom forgiving her parents for keeping this secret and realizing how much she loves them and is grateful for them.
So, do they know what ice cream is on magix? The winx act like they have never seen it before but Stella also says she wants two scoops. How did you know ice cream comes in scoops Stella? How did you know?
Also I know I should be cringing at the Musa ice cream thing and the trix dancing but I feel to desensitized to this show I can't even bring myself to have any sort of meaningful reaction to this. The trix did do this cat paw thing while dancing that I found kinda funny. Not as funny as baby Bloom though.
Suddenly Mr. Hand Feets has a name and everyone knows it. Also Musa looks pregnant.
Bloom says they are going to lead Mr. Hand Feets to "the woods," but the woods has spaced apart trees and is 100% visible to the street.
The Winx can only cast one spell at a time. Also Tecna is the most useful one.
Griselda is evil again.
Did Flora's Voice just change midline? I guess this really is winx club after all.
Why is Flora suddenly Fluttershy? She can talk to animals and calm them and after making Mr. Hand Feets uglier she says kindness is important.
This time Bloom does not hesitate to use her powers is the middle of the neighborhood.
Am I the only one who really thought they were going to do a call back to the trial in the fortress of light where Bloom decided to save both?
Icy gave Bloom like 2 seconds to think about the deal before telling Darcy to murder.
