44. "You've always felt like home!" SCREAMS Elmabby!!
Oooookay. I don’t know why I ended up working on this this tonight at 1 AM, but here you go. This is purely for you, @wishuponakiss! I hope it’s not too cheesy (I think it totally is)! I honestly wasn’t expecting anyone to send me a prompt, but thanks! I’d love to make this a comic actually, if I ever had the time, but I probably won’t. So have a fic instead!
This originally started off as a really fluffy like filler piece, which would’ve been fine until I remembered it was an angst prop. So…had to make’m upset, unfortunately. I could always share the happier version later maybe? We’ll see!

Summary: Dealing with separated parents is never easy. Sometimes you just need someone to be there.
“You’ve always felt like home.”
He couldn’t help but to stare at the exhausted fairy in his arms as the sound of Tony Stark snarkily trying to convince the Avengers of another brilliant plan played muffled in his ears. Drowning it out, was the steady rhythm of her breathing. He fought back a laugh as she furrowed her eyebrows, pouting in her sleep and mumbling about not having enough pizza cookies for her garden before she snuggled closer into his shirt.
She had showed up at his doorstep a couple of hours ago drenched head to toe, doused from onslaught of the downpour with her head bowed. He had stared at her in shock.
“A-ABBY?! What the—?? What happened???”
A beat.
She lifted her head and forced a sheepish grin.
“Ah….i-it l-l-looks like I f-forgot my u-umbrella, heheh…C-can I come i—?”
“For crying out loud!” He could hear the chill in her voice as he promptly grabbed her arm and proceed to yank her inside.
Thirty minutes later found her donning one of his old jerseys and a pair of sweatpants while her clothes were in the dryer. A warm, fluffy towel fresh from the laundry instantly soothed her as he patted her head, quietly scolding her for nearly getting herself sick and giving him a heart attack.
It had been raining so hard outside that he was surprised she’d made it to his front step at all. She shouldn’t have even been out at this time of day anyway. Where had she been? What was she doing? Was she really alright? He’d fix her some hot cocoa soon and…
And he paused, her forehead was against his chest as she clutched the fabric of his shirt tightly, taking deep breaths.
“A-abby?”
“My dad….he….I….we got into a fight…” her she hiccuped as her voice quivered. He said nothing, just wrapped his arms around her and gave her a warm squeeze as her tears dampened his shirt.

She didn’t tell Elmo that her dad had been a couple of hours late picking her up from school…again. Her mom had a last minute appointment to see a client about a case, so he was supposed to come get her instead.
She didn’t tell him that her father had somehow, in his weirdly wired mind, thought it best to cut the already thick tension from her annoyance at his late arrival by asking questions prying into her mom’s love life.
She didn’t tell him how frustrated she’d gotten. How she’d bit back that it was none of his business, and really none of hers either. They had no control over whomever her mother chose to date. After all, when her dad had started dating several years ago, he revealed little to nothing about his love life, so why should he even worry about whom her mom was seeing? Was he actually serious?!
“Becaaause I think I have the right to know more about this guy if he’s going to be around you and your mother, is all.” He’d had the audacity to say that.
A stretched out screaming match and one stop sign later, had Abby promptly getting out of the car, slamming the door, and deciding to make the rest of her way home on foot. They were in a safe part of town, and she didn’t need a ride now, no matter how much he insisted. Plus, she just couldn’t be in the same car as him right now.
However, she’d forgotten it was supposed to rain that day.
Still she needed to get away…from everything.
So, she didn’t tell Elmo, and he didn’t ask.

In the end, to soothe her nerves, Abby spent the night watching Marvel movies with her closest friend and pigging out on some warm brownies, courtesy of his Elmo’s mother. It wasn’t until the red monster found himself waking up at 2 AM with his arms full of fairy that he realized they had fallen asleep during their binge-a-thon. His dad, having returned home from deployment a few days ago, had tossed a blanket over them, atop their pillow fort.
At present, the red monster smiled and pulled the blanket up over her more. He remembered one of the first times her parents had gotten into a huge argument, before their divorce. At three-years-old, their yelling had frighten her so much that she’d unconsciously murmured a spell to transport her to a warm and safe place.
That had been Elmo’s house, right next to her best friend.
An impromptu sleep-over. He’d given her his doll, Baby David, to sleep with ar the time.
Later, when his dad had dropped her off at home the next day, he had commented something along the fact hat ‘Little Miss Magic’ had to see their place as something like a second home to have sub-conciously poofed herself there.
Little did he know, it wasn’t so much the place, as it was the warm-hearted young monster that lived inside.
“You’re my best friend, Elmo. When I’m with you, I just…I feel like everything will be okay. And, it makes me happy.”
“Really?”
“Yeah! The truth is, to me, you’ve always felt like home,” she’d said, her voice from earlier echoed in his mind, the way it fell to a lulling whisper before she had finally doze off against him.
I once had one where Spyro journeyed through a dark, mystical forest where the trees and flowers could talk. There was a lovely river that he could swim in, and I remember there was an opening of a tree at its trunk, and Spyro could play a xylophone anytime he wanted? This dream was well over a decade ago, and I was in the middle of an Eternal Night playthrough.
that sounds like a really sweet dream! i love the idea of the trees and flowers talking to spyro, it sounds like reimagining of summer forest, especially with the river!
and the xylophone LMAO thats classic. i love when dreams pull out random inexplicable stuff like that
Your artwork is out of this world! I can't help but picture Padaradscha pulling Lars along eagerly towards Funland just so she can experience all of the rides. "Let's go on the Ferris Wheel next! NO, WAIT! WHAT ARE THOSE?" "Swans." "I WANT TO RIDE THE SWAN!!!" "But that's the tunnel of lo--" "LARS, DON'T YOU TOO WISH TO RIDE THE SWANS? :D"
awww, that sounds really cute! and thanks for the compliment =)

Dude, go read the original comics. Holy cow, you'd love them! They're tons of fun, and Jaime's such a likable kid in the preboot. It's such a fantastic read. <3
Do you have a suggestion for where to start? That’s always my issue with comics lol
Howdy! I just wanted to say, thanks for writing all of those wonderful WonderBeetle fics. I decided to take a dive into one of my DC otps to get some inspiration for an original oneshot that I'm currently developing. :D Have a good evening!
Oh my god, you are so welcome! I can’t wait for season 3 of young justice so I can get inspired for wonderbeetle again. Let me know when you finish your oneshot - I would love to read it!
Hey Holy, what do you think of the new Appmon opening? :D
I really really like it!! Both the new op and ed are super cute! The op is a good mix of cute bits and also bits that are a bit more serious, but it’s not all doom and gloom. I was a bit worried about it going that way at the halfway point, but nope still plenty of cute to go around.
The songs themselves don’t really jump out at me, but I tend to care more about the animation aspects of it anyway. Matches well with the songs so it’s all good.
I complain about it, but I’m pretty excited to make gif sets for them. With the new size limit it should be easier than the gif set for the first op at least.
I ship Jamie/The Librarian (from Buddy's Book). An adorable yet enthusiastic mailman with a quiet bookworm, which possibly means that he could get her out of her shell? I'm game.
