Festivals and holidays I observe as a Hellenic pagan witch
Monthly:
Noumenia - The first day of the lunar month, when the new moon is just visible. It's a day for planning, progress, fresh starts, and new beginnings. It's also a day to honor Hestia and make fresh offerings to her at her altar.
Agathos Daimon - The second day of the new lunar month, a day to honor and make offerings to the agathos daimon, the [snake] spirit of the household.
The 6th day of the lunar month - Artemis's sacred day. It's a day to honor Artemis and make fresh offerings to her at her altar. As Artemis's oathbound devotee, it's a very special day for me.
Dikhomenia - The day of the full moon/the middle of the lunar month. A day of power, gratitude, charging, manifestation, invocation and fulfillment. A day to honor the moon as well as the moon goddesses (Artemis, Hecate, and Selene).
Hecate's Deipnon - The dark moon/day before the new moon. The day marks the end of the lunar month. It's a day for cleansing, decluttering, catching up, and finishing up. It's also a day to honor Melinoe and make fresh offerings to her at her altar, as well as a good day to seek the guidance of Hecate for my witchcraft practice.
Yearly:
Anthesphoria - Spring Equinox. A flower festival to celebrate the coming of spring and marking Persephone's farewell to Hades and departure from the Underworld.
May Day - the height of spring and a day to look forward to summer.
Thargelia - the 6th of Thargelion, Artemis's birthday.
Summer Solstice - the longest day of the year.
Attic New Year - the 1st of Hekatombaion
Aphrodisia - the 4th of Hekatombaion, a festival in honor of Aphrodite.
Panathenaea - the 28th of Hekatombaion, Athena's birthday.
Koris Katagogi - Autumn Equinox. The arrival of autumn, when Persephone returns to her husband and her place as Queen of the Underworld.
Halloween - a day to honor the ancestors, the earthbound spirits, and the souls of the loved ones who have departed the mortal world. A day to honor Melinoe, and for one day each year, I pray to her to allow my beloved 4-legged children to visit me from the afterlife.
Winter Solstice - the shortest day of the year.
