jaskier on his own: i really enjoy jaskier going off on his own and being an angsty but also a reflective and emotionally-complex character. there is so much that can be done here in exploring the nuances of jaskier’s normally-cheerful personality, such as the reasons behind his apparent shallowness and sometimes impulsive behavior. there’s also a lot of room for jaskier to work on himself (not change himself, mind you, but find out what he wants in life, who he is outside of geralt’s bard, etc.). i think that’s crucial for the geralt/jaskier ship, because realistically, both characters must undergo some kind of personal growth before they can healthily repair their relationship. in essence, this trope, when executed in this focus, can serve as a very in-depth character study of jaskier.
dadskier: i’m a sucker for the dadskier trope. i think that jaskier would be a very doting parent, perhaps not authoritative enough and too weak to reject the whims of the ones he loves, but at the same time, i love reading fics that explore the what-if scenario of jaskier finding cirilla first. in these fics, jaskier must take it upon himself to put on a brave face and act more conservatively--he has to protect this girl, if not for geralt, then for himself, because he has so much to prove--and again, this trope offers much in regards to character development. i also enjoy fics where jaskier stumbles upon geralt and ciri by accident and teaches geralt the art of gentleness and vulnerability. i don’t know... i just think that jaskier is the perfect counterpart fo geralt’s parenting style: jaskier is naturally more expressive and unafraid of showing weakness in front of his loved ones. he would make sure that ciri has a normal childhood outside of sword-fighting, blood, and war.
i am a fiend for literally ANY bamf! jaskier fic, because for the maker’s sake, that man survived being on his own for years without geralt, and you can’t convince me that those times alone went peacefully for him, because he literally went around the continent spouting some very progressive and controversial lyrics. so god damn it! the bard can defend himself.
witcher! jaskier: these aus are my bread and butter, my cup of tea. i absolutely love them because of the potential for angst. it also adds another layer fo jaskier’s bright mannerisms--how is hiding all the trauma/has he forgotten it? love them, would kill for more fics in this trope (i’m too lazy to write, but I WILL DRAW FOR THEM MARK MY WORDS).
immortal jaskier: i love these so much. for one, it’s always funny to read fics where geralt is completely oblivious to jaskier’s true nature. it’s also always fun to explore just what jaskier is doing when he’s not with geralt/his true origins, whether it be that he’s an elf, a vampire, a faerie, etc.
