More witcher recs! This post is devoted to The Witcher Netflix's Cahir. Here are 8 stories that includes some rarepairs, shenanigans and smut. I won't rule out making another TWN Cahir recs post since I haven't even gone into some of my other bookmarks that I made back when I was reading as much as I could. So many good stories everywhere.

Hangover by @astaldis. 3785w. Mature. TWN. Fringilla and Cahir. Season 3 canon divergence AU. Drunken shenanigans. Angst and humor. After a night of celebrating his unexpected reunion with Fringilla, Cahir wakes up with a bad hangover and with no memory of the events of the night.

Forever besties and confessions, omg. Fringilla and Cahir’s dynamic is so great, I can’t get enough of it and thankfully this author has so much great fic with them.

In the city of golden towers by @limerental. 11,858, Mature. TWN but blending with books. Fringilla & Cahir. After being accused of treason for their role in Xin'trea, Fringilla is dismissed and demoted, and Cahir is reassigned. Sent back to the City of Golden Towers, the capital of Nilfgaard, the pair end up reluctantly sharing a room together in Cahir's great aunt's apartments.

OMG they were platonic roommates. It’s such a great story about home and friendship and being in that liminal space after failure and not knowing where you fit in now that you’ve fucked up. It’s got some great anachronistic tidbits of the kind you’d find in the witcher books, a ton of incredible Fringilla characterizations, a cat character, and a ton of laugh out loud moments.

the backs have bled by woahpip. 606w. Teen. TWN. Yennefer/Cahir. “You can never trust someone like me, Cahir.” His face never changed; that wasn’t news to him.

This is a great fireside chat between the two characters. It’s a great and candid look at their very different lived experiences and their general philosophy on life. Great ficlet.

Flame and Chaos by MindTraveler. 7531w. Mature. TWN. Yennefer/Cahir. Touch-starved, horsemanship, touch starved. He hadn’t been touched in months, except for pain. Yennefer and Cahir struggle to retrieve what they have both lost. Power.

This is really fucking delicious and really turned me onto the possibilities of the pairing.

A Skittish Colt by @sassaffrassa. 300w. Explicit. Regis/Cahir. Fisting, d/s, praise kink. Cahir's stress can be easily managed with the proper medical techniques applied.

This is 🔥🔥🔥.

Witcher Recs - Angst & Connection

Witcher fandom has such a wide variety of angsty fic. I come bearing a small recs list of 8 angsty witcher stories today. Angst and pain and tragedy, surviving and sometimes not surviving, but also experiencing comfort in that times of need.

This list features game/book Witcher canons but some of them are a little more ambiguous than others. Rare pairs, side characters, and pain.

Pyres by KushielsMercy. 374w, Teen. Éibhear Hattori character study. Angst. People are always hungry on burning days. 

A short fic but every sentence punches you in the throat, gut, and especially the heart.

On Roads Where I Lost Sight of God by kimikocha. Witcher Aubry, original character, Jad Karadin. Angst, child abuse, rescue, Eternal Fire. 1900w. Mature. In Novigrad, where life is cheap, Aubry finds two elvish children locked away in the basement of a philanthropist's hastily abandoned home. Rescuing them isn't even a question. But to do so he'll have to make it out of a city full of burning pyres, run by an Eternal Fire that's in a mood to set non-humans aflame.

The way Aubry tries to connect with the children as he’s trying to keep them safe, it always gets me.

A Killing Frost by @brighteyedjill. 1323w, Teen. Barmin. Impending character death, sacking of Kaer Morhen. Gardens and gardening. Barmin drew the key from his belt, unlocked the greenhouse door, and closed it behind him. The door did nothing to drown out either the smell of smoke or the shouting and screaming. He ignored it.

Secrets and gardens and pain of impending death and destruction, heart wrenching.

En'ca minne by @eatingcroutons. 2951w. Explicit. Milva/Iorveth. Milva saves the remnants of Iorveth's routed commando, and they stop to rest on the way to Brokilon. This is a missing scene fic about a story that Milva briefly talks about in Baptism of Fire. Elves, group sex, canon compliant.

I adore this fic because Milva absolutely deserves all the nice things. And oh the angsty pain and loveeeee.

A candle in the dark by and_a_dash_of_Angst. 1600w. Teen. Lambert and Yennefer. Childhood friends AU. Child abuse, angst, hurt/comfort, first meetings. Neither Yennefer nor Lambert had anything even vaguely resembling a happy childhood. That hasn't changed; sometimes, though, a friendly face can make things seem a little less terrible.

This is such a great premise and fantastic fic where Lambert and Yennefer meet as children and the friendship they find together amidst their abusive upbringings.

Falconry Basics by @brighteyedjill. 2100w. Mature. Coën & Vesemir. Touch-starved, nonsexual bondage. H/c, platonic BDSM. At the start of the winter at Kaer Morhen, Coën watched the Wolves shed their wariness and relax from being individual witchers into being a pack. They pounced on each other in playful attacks and kept some kind of elaborate scoring system about it. They grabbed hold of one another’s arms to get someone’s attention or make a point. They even tussled in the hot springs, all that naked skin sliding together. They knew each other well enough to understand what was wanted without conversation. Coën watched all that and felt it like an ache, like his skin was bruised from not being touched.

The ache in this fic is so painful and wonderful.

where ever I go (trouble seems to follow) by heronfem. 4,057w. Mature. The Inherent Tragedy of Witchers. Worldbuilding. Mental Health Issues. Ves and Vesemir. “I’m named after you,” is the first thing that Ves says to him when she walks up to where he’s working on sharpening blades. “Don’t make it weird, old man.” Vesemir snorts, unable to quite keep from smiling. There’s battle brewing and more bodies in Kaer Morhen breathing than they’ve had in nearly a century, and still he’s been backtalked by young ones. It’s almost nostalgic. “You are only one of many, many others. The world is a strange place.” Or: The Life and Times of Vesemir of Dol Angra, hero of Lyria.

All the character details that heron sheds a light upon in their work is extraordinary. I have a lot of favorite heron fic and this Ves and Vesemir one holds a special place in my aching heart.

Banishment by @witch-and-her-witcher. 520w. Mature. Iorveth/Iskra. Vrihedd Brigade. Angst. Backstory. Iskra seeks comfort before her fate is decided.

This ficlet. The rare pair of it all, omg. The angst of the impending threat to their lives and the comfort of the moment between two elves that never met in canon. This is a fascinating ficlet to see how these two might connect before the worst moment of their lives

Oh, and he's still working as the Sandpiper, only now a terrifying eldritch creature has entrusted him with the Song of the Seven to give hope to the elves and help them fight back against their oppression. It's probably the bravest thing he's ever done, but not everyone sees it that way.

Luckily he knows some people who excel at last minute rescues.

... then he just has to figure out how to tell Geralt why so many people are trying to kill him. This is going to go great.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

Some Kind of Disaster my TWN Season 3 missing scene fic with Yen and Jaskier is the one I’m most proud of this year. (Though to be fair I only managed to finish/post 4 fics this year so it’s a small pool… But still!) This fic hits all of the emotional beats that had been swirling in my head for a few years now, so I was over the moon when I got to the end of the fic and it was done and it was everything I wanted. Such a great feeling to see it into the world.

12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?

The number of WIPs are always too many. Prioritizing my WIPs is hard at the best of times, heh. I had maybe 6-7 active WIPs in the past year that I didn’t finish. On top of a few more new WIPs and ideas that wanted to be WIPs. Hard to stay focused.

As I said in previous ask, I have a yennskier nonsexual kink fic to work on. Since I’m still very much in witcher mode regardless of time between seasons.

But I still have my 20k+ Ciri fic that I really want and need to revisit. I have 30k+ more Jaskier fic that I yearn to work on. It's really matter of me poking @littlestsnicket and maybe enlisting some other folks to wave pompoms in my periphery to remind me that I want to go chasing that’ finishing-a-longfic/series feeling.’ I forever need to practice sharing more WIPs on main.

I may try to finish and post a little radskier ficlet I wrote in…idk I want to say March? And then there’s a Vilgefortz ficlet that I started last year, too that I think could be within finishing distance.

25. Did you receive any gifts this year?

I have a BOUNTY of gifts from this year! Like, so many. So blessed, everyone is having so much fun and I'm loving it all. Strap in, I got a squeeful recs list for you all.

Chantress did a podfic of my TWN Triss/Yenna ficlet Germinate which was a complete and wonderful surprise and is so, so lovely.

@astaldis did a remix of one of my Yennefer/Jaskier drabbles and it’s so great! It’s called Completion, very sexy feelings and hottness.

@she-who-drank-vodka-with-cats picked up a prompt I shared in the Smubbles server for some Meve/Reynard Thronebreaker awesomeness. It’s called the benefits of a prince consort. My prompt was: meve/reynard foot massage and comfort. ❤️❤️❤️

@sassaffrassa wrote me a smutty Geralt/Jaskier edging drabble called Stamina and it's of course 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Sass also wrote me Scavenger’s Reign Azi/Levi sex pollen drabble called flowering because robot yuri and sex pollen!!!!! If ever an an alien planet would have sex pollen, it would be Vesta. 🔥🔥🔥

@flootzavut gifted me a Jaskier fic called you do not get to hurt me which was a lovely surprise, lots of queer Jaskier messy feelings. I had a great time tossing the idea ball back and forth with flooty on this one when they were a little stuck on it. And the finished fic is so great and achey and I want to roll around in the Jaskier feelings all the time. Love you flootyfloots. I was bamboozled with love and utter surprise when I got an AO3 notification saying I was gifted a Stargate work. From none other than MSSalieri/troyswann who has been archiving their SG fic over the last few years. It’s an Elizabeth Weir and Daniel Jackson fic inspired by a prompt I offered Salieri several lifetimes and platforms ago. Salieri is an author and artist I have loved for an eternity, and I spent a lot of time reading and studying her fic when I was also first starting out writing fic. Trying to figure out how to do this prose thing. Really, just amazing…so much in a short fic. Reactivating the dormant Stargate feelings. The fic is called Unknown Waters. my prompt I had given Sal: If one tries to navigate unknown waters one runs the risk of shipwreck.

And then. There’s @ialwayscomewhenyoucall. Lira. Lira! Who I am constantly egging on with my Doctor Who Ten/Jack prompts in the @smubbles-etc discord server. Lira is just as delighted by my prompts as I am fucking excited to see what she comes up with. I’ve dumped approximately 200 million Doctor Who Ten/Jack prompts into the server this year. She’s been making me feel like a winner, lol. Lira is frolicking with prompts and I’m kicking my feetsies. ALSO Lira, have you made any headway on that Ten/Jack having sex performance for a paying alien audience prompt? Maybe for Smubble’s Wanksmas event? :D

2024 Fic Roundup

All my fic this year is Witcher Netflix and Witcher Books. I finished a whopping 3 stories. I started more fic WIPs than I finished by a significant amount (woe woe sigh but okay). This year spent more time writing about vidding and getting back into digital art this year (new art sideblog @allegoryaskew) . But I am still obsessed with all things witcher and wanted to make a roundup post anyway (can't even remember if I did a fic roundup last year or the year before. Anyway...)

Letting himself get cursed may not have been the smartest thing Wei Wuxian has ever done, but he'd argue that it’s completely in character. So he should earn some points for consistency, at the very least. Besides, when the spirit had been explaining it, the curse hadn't sounded too bad. Maybe a little bothersome if he underestimated how many people felt strongly about him, but surely, surely, it wouldn't be enough to hamper him in the long run.
