Sword of Destiny: A Shard Of Ice (why I ship Jaskier with everyone now)
I just finished the Shard of Ice portion of Sword of Destiny, and, gods above, Yen and Geralt are so tragically dysfunctional! I would declare that their relationship is doomed to go down in flames if I hadn’t read the rest of the books.
However, that’s a rant for another day. Funnily enough, my main takeaway from this very intense Geralt/Yen roller coaster is how desperately they both NEED a Jaskier of their own...or to share, heh heh.
Here’s why I’m now in Yen/Jaskier hell:
Yen tells Geralt, “Warmth would melt the shard of ice in me. Then you would see me as I really am. I desire warmth, that is my secret.”
Yennefer the ice queen, wants the same thing everyone wants, to be truly seen and loved for who she is. She needs someone who can melt through her layers of ice, with their warm affections. Geralt proceeds to fail at this spectacularly (having his own slew of emotional hang ups that hurt my heart), and I’m just left thinking how Jaskier would be the perfect ray of sunshine that Yen longs for. He could melt that ice. He could make her smile. He would sing aloud about his love for her.
And I’m already dying from these feels...
