i think the zodiac academy series! it has elemental magic, that's established in the beginning with a clear set of rules that aren't retconned two books later. honorable mention goes to the hidden legacy series i really like the magic system and the lore behind it but i'm only two books in and i'm sure it'll expand more, but i really recommend that too

i don't classify him as a villain, but it's cassius from red rising, he's an antagonist and also my problematic husband lmfao. i like darrow (the mc) more though.
