A random cosmic witch’s soliloquy
Note: These are my thoughts about my own evolving practice and more about the spirituality aspect of cosmic witchcraft and what drives me. I just wanted to share my thinking and see if it jives with anyone else :)
In my mind, intuitively – before I turn to other sources, the term “cosmic witch” makes me imagine witchy workings with that special, exquisite feeling when I look into a vast open night sky, no trees, no skyscrapers to block out the unending sea of shining stars and planets that I see above. It dwarfs me, engulfs me. Instead of feeling like my world and my experiences are made small and insignificant, I am encompassed by the Universe, I belong. Everything feels it is as it ought to be. I am part of everything, and everything is part of me – instead of feeling alone, I feel more connected to everything on the earth.
The sky I see before me connects me to all the people who are looking at the sky at this very moment and also the people before me, and those who will come after me – that we have/will share this entracing starry scene and be stunned by the beauty of being alive. I am grateful. I am enamored. I am transfixed. I am taken from the microcosm of my day and maybe my week, month, year, etc. and zoomed out to the grand and long narrative of the Earth. I reflect upon cyclical patterns, the paradoxes, the opposites of existence that make up my experience and all the shared-yet-different ways of living on Earth.
This is what cosmic witchcraft's spirituality is to me. I am part of the cosmos, the cosmos is part of me. This feeling and sensation I cannot get from any other concept. We get to understand a small sliver of the rest of the Universe through the lens of our experiences on Earth. Gazing at the luminous night sky makes me love my planet all the more and the creatures that inhabit it. We experience this time period on earth while we travel throughout space altogether.
And the planets! Celestial objects in the night sky! Our star system equivalents of elders, fellow family members of our solar system to be known better and to learn from. Before even learning of the “cosmic witch” term I had no idea that there would be those who would work with asteroid belts, smaller planets, meteors, black holes, and even nebulae. What a treat it is to live in a time where I can so easily discover those who have an affinity to these kinds of things.
