Mumbo: If I put a milkshake in one yard and crack a cold one in another yard, which one would the boys go to?

Joel: Ha, Schrödinger's Boys.

Scar: What about cracking open a cold milkshake?

Gem: As we know, the milkshake brings the boys to the yard. The presence of the boys is a prerequisite for the cracking open of a cold one, but cold ones do not have any apparent boy-attracting qualities. But milkshakes do!

Impulse: So all else being equal, the boys would proceed to the milkshake yard.

Skizz: And while the promise of cold ones can attract boys, the pull of the milkshake is stronger by comparison.

Grian: Mind you, all of this nonsense hinges on whether the boys are back in town.

Last Life is rattling around in my head again, which means I decide to just. REDESIGN EVERYBODY ON RED. Okay exaggeration I didn't redesign EVERYBODY but like. A lot of them did get redesigns or design tweaks. I miss Last Life, guys.

Past Life setting, Impulse POV

angsty Grimpulse smut (yay)

poly-lifers sentiment. aka lots of fucking around and across everyone

the episode where Impulse is left as the only Gluten Guy, and the Villies lose Pearl (rip)... yeah that got me thinking a lot about Impulse's character and who better to explore him with than my favourite Guy who is an experienced widow?? so this is a study of Impulse, as well as a bit of his and Grian's relationship back in Last Life vs now (PL). it's about them but at the same time it's not, because they've both got other things (grief lol) on their mind and physical intimacy just happens to be a pretty good distraction.

initially, this idea came to me together with two others and i thought about turning all three into a series. one of them (which would happen at the same time as this Grimpulse) was Scaridarity because did you hear how proud Scar was of Jimmy after he killed Pearl?? but at the same time he's also jealous of the kill... and that paired with some praisekink!jimmy... many thoughts to be had... anyway, the third idea was of course Scarian because my brainworms. that one would happen later though, after Grian turns Scar red and then they are both red and fun things happen from there :)

i'm not so sure if/when i'll get to those two other ideas, but i'm currently 1.7k words into the Grimpulse fic so i'll likely finish it up over the next couple months! depending on life and everything! for now i'll share a couple of excerpts that i quite like:

1)

The cobbled floor was warm through Impulse's thin clothes. If he closed his eyes, it almost felt cosy. He could even imagine he had teammates on either side of him, chatting away. There would be talk on how to next upgrade their ridiculous base, or maybe catch some stray deaths. Ren would praise them all in the glory of Glutenkhamun and Tango would do that humoured cackle of his, and Impulse— Damn it. —Impulse was kidding himself.

2)

“I can’t believe the Rejects took you that fast. You could’ve been with us,” Grian muttered.   Impulse scoffed, raising his eyebrows. “And then what? You’d use me as your tank until I’m also done and dead?” Grian’s mouth snapped shut. His eyes hardened, but Impulse could see how they were also rimmed with red, shaking with something barely-restrained. Grief, most likely.  Impulse looked away, guilt settling between the spikes of his words. “Sorry,” he said quietly. “That was over the line.”

3)

Impulse remembered this. That a Grian who was vulnerable, who didn’t know what to do with himself, needed to take control. It was ages ago and worlds away, but time always seemed to work differently in these games. The memory surfaced fresh on Impulse’s mind: the two of them, holding onto each other amidst a crumbled alliance. Grian, almost manic in the aftermath of betrayal. Impulse, afraid but certain of himself, his loyalty.
