The whole faser scene still makes me absolutely insane. Jeremy didn’t even bring up those bruises until Laila did. And those bruises hurt to touch. He just acted like it was normal. Like he hadn’t been surprised it happened. He wasn’t even mad at faser. In fact, he defends him. Protects him. He worries about not being able to lock the door while faser is sleeping. He tries to spare faser from Jean’s wrath. He tells Jean, automatically, that faser didn’t mean to hurt him, even though it was very clear that faser could not have cared less if he hurt Jeremy.
And Jean, who insisted that every broken bone and bruise he received was what he deserved, is the one who keeps pushing that it isn’t normal. It’s so fucked and twisted and it really gets me every time. “I don’t believe you,” jean told him. “Cat has never bruised Laila like this”. And yeah everyone focuses on the tongue line after bc it was insane of Jeremy to say but I kinda think that line took away from the scene as a whole.
Like. Look at how quickly this man waves away abuse when it comes to himself. Look at how unhealthy this is. Look at how he’s not just Jean’s savior but a boy who also needs to be saved. Look at how similar Jeremy and Jean are. Waving away abuse when it comes to themselves because they think they deserve it.
But also look at the way Jean is following his friends’ example of what love and care should look like, and look at how Jeremy’s going to follow his example in return . Look at the path Jean is carving to healing, and look at the footsteps he’s leaving for Jeremy to follow
