Esmeralda warf ihr Haar zurück während sie mit einem schelmischen Lächeln den zerschlissenen Saum ihres Kleides hob. „Hey, es ist doch nicht meine Schuld, dass Frollos Hunde mich ständig durch die Gassen jagen!“ Ihre Stimme klang amüsiert, aber wenn man genau hinhörte klang die Wut durch.

„Ich krieg’ das schon wieder hin“, sagte sie, ihre Finger spielten mit dem purpurnen Stoff „oder willst du’s mal versuchen, die Nadel zu schwingen?“
