Just occurred to me after a relisten: Stone got the inflict wounds spell from Grandma Wren and specifically modified it to be able to affect someone who is difficult to get skin contact with. Such as someone in full armor. Such as someone like Steel. Did Stone anticipate that she would need to fight Steel? Especially since Stone would have had plenty of wizard spells to fight with, but she specifically went and got a witch spell and tweaked it for her purposes. I'm guessing Stone was preparing to go up against powerful citadel magic, if not specifically Steel. So how much trust was there really between them?

Also to what extent was Grandma Wren sharing witch magic with them to fight the citadel?

what if steel is the one who caused Soft and Stone’s demise and Eioghorain is innocent? the way Kalaya was talking about Gaothmai, it really doesn’t seem that evil of a place (which i’ve always suspected, because until now we’ve only ever heard imperium propaganda), and everything we’ve learned about soft and stone indicates that they did not believe in the citadel’s supremist ideals, what if steel betrayed them to gain favour with the citadel and then went to get suvi to raise her under the grasp of the citadel, can’t leave such a promising legacy behind, especially one that leaves the door towards the witch of the world’s heart open..

wonder if discovering that a professor had imprisoned his wife in the spider cocoon museum after finding out she was a spirit would be enough for (Stone) to accuse him of crimes against magic, get kicked out of school and enlist (Soft) to stage a plausibly deniable jailbreak
