Just started wolf's rain and now I must inflict the Stans with it
Stan and Ford are both wolves that are perceived as humans
Ooh wolf's rain! It's been ages since I've seen it, like. Twenty years almost.
Give me a moment.
Hmmm.
So Stan and Ford are wolves, who through inherit wolf magic, can morph/appear human. I'm thinking filbrick and Caryn are as well, and they raised their kids to fit into human society to better survive after hunters started killing off wolf packs. They're still wolves though, so they can't go to school as they age faster than human children.
The two of them grow up with each other, running around the beach and the town when schools out and confined indoors when it's in. Or are stuck indoors most of the time, so their human neighbors don't catch onto the two kids who grow up way too fast. They find the boat and come up with a dream to sail away and find somewhere they can finally be themselves.
Except Ford realizes he actually enjoys blending in with humans. Maybe their pack has a homeschooling system in place, and through it they learn Ford excels at human learning. Just goes through all kinds of texts and applies to competitions, and then I'm thinking they enroll them both into high school once their aging starts to slow down. Before Ford couldn't wait to escape the town and find an island, but now everyone's praising his intelligence and he can really get going on his studies. Ford still gets bullied for his hands, Stan still fights them off (with strict instructions not to go wolf), and the science fair still happens.
Here it's not the loss of millions that makes filbrick and the pack angry, it was the potential safety Ford could have gotten them from getting a higher education. Ford could have made money, bought land, and they could have been able to run free, or use him as a point of contact for wolves who wanted to blend in with human society. Or used his fame as a scientist to advocate for wolf rights so they stopped getting hunted.
I'm thinking what happens is a sort of roll swap thing. Growing up Stan loved pretending to be human to run around and scam people, and Ford preferred to be a wolf so he could hide in the woods and not be made fun of for his hands, then as adults Fords going to college and getting PhDs and getting grants and research, while Stan gets kicked out and finds it easier to survive as a wolf. As a wolf he can hunt and be mistaken for a dog for scraps, as a person he has to talk his way in and out of places. Instead of millions Stan's trying to find 'paradise', a place he and his family can finally exist in peace so the pack will take him back.
Angst for Stan as he's a lone roaming wolf with a car. Def gets captured for dog fights at some point and maybe as an exotic pet. Ricos after him not for money but because Stan was his best guard dog once he got him to heel, and Stan escaping was some goons fault he's trying to correct.
Fords having a great time though! Manages through college as a wolf in man's clothing, gets a grant, then runs wild in Gravity Falls. It has its own pack, but Fords so trenched in humanity they don't consider-
No wait. Angstier idea. It had a pack, but the Northwests hunted them to extinction in the area. Fords the first wolf there in a while, but he's too caught up in pretending to be human and only running to hunt occasionally its not really making an impact on the ecosystem.
Hmm. I'm thinking this is a no Bill au, as Ford rolls up to the cave and immediately 180's out of there.
Instead they meet up through Stan finally abandoning trying to be human all together and finding Gravity Falls, a place he deems to be Paradise. There's no other wolves and ecosystem is suffering for it, its far away from any big human civilizations, miles and miles of woods to run around in. Starts marking territory, scouting out the wildlife, and happily going to town on the over abundant gnome population. He finds a nice den, starts licking his wounds, and is all ready to go to try and find a way to bring his family there.
One problem. The Northwests are still here, wolves still have a negative reputation, and the moment someone finds wolf tracks the hunt is on. Stan has no idea the small nearby town is out to skin him, just goes about his day building strength and exploring the woods.
Ford knows. Fords thinks their hunting him and locks down on his human disguise. Almost overcompensates on how human he tries to look. Lasts right up until he's scribbling away in his journal, having put a stop to all field work until the heat died down, and hears Stan howling, then gunshots.
He'd recognize his brothers howl any day.
Runs out into the woods, holds off on dropping the human guise until he stumbles on Stan, full wolf and snarling, covered in blood. Frantically drags Stan home, dodging pursuit and covering his tracks.
From there... Hmm. Could be a story about Gravity Falls as a whole learning that wolves aren't bad and living in harmony with the two wolves that are also the local scientist and his crook brother. Maybe Ford letting himself go back to his wolf roots while Stan remembers how to act more like a person to survive. Or the town refuses to hunt them, and they abandon their human disguises entirely to live as actual wolves, finally free to be themselves and turning into humans only to see what the humans are up to.
Only after there's a fight though. Stan has to yell at Ford for hogging Paradise all to himself, while Ford yells about seeing all the wolf hunting history and deciding that maybe bringing a bunch of wolves here wasn't the best idea.
Then yelling at Stan for his gnome eating. Yes they're a prey species and most things around here eat them, but really Stanley? Gnomes? There's way too much sugar in them.
Stantwinber Day 19-20: Stargazing and Werewolf/Wolfwalker
Gonna start mashing prompts together so I can (hopefully) catch up faster. So, here are some Wolfwalker!Stans chilling on a cliff, looking at the stars.
So, I know Ford probably won't be stuck with his curse for multiple reasons(not having to trespass to survive, being cursed for less time, etc) but after learning that he was cursed for tresspqssing, all I can think of is Ford in the future needing to be explicitly invited in a la vampire lore or else he poofs into a wolf in your doorway
That's exactly what I was thinking lol. Man can only go unto public spaces safely. Sometimes not even then depend. Never know where the boundary to someone's home is. Him and Stan get a system where Stan breaks into places and invites Ford in, then Ford steals for him.
