41: Kisses shared under an umbrella.
===
Jonathan stares out at the parking lot in disgust, rain falling heavily on the pavement. It’s cold for a summer afternoon, and he starts to shiver at the humidity. Steve, however, is enjoying himself - if for no other reason than because he’s huddled under a tiny umbrella with Jonathan. His back is soaked because he’s tilting the umbrella heavily towards Jon, helping to keep him dry. Jonathan notices and frowns.
“Don’t get soaked for me,” he says, reaching to push the pole of the umbrella towards Steve. Their hands brush and Jonathan can’t help but to blush, swallowing hard and looking away.
“Maybe I like to be soaked,” Steve shouts over the rain, gently moving the umbrella over Jonathan again. “We’ll go when it lets up a bit.”
Steve knows how much Jonathan hates being out in the rain. To be inside and listening to records while reading some bullshit pretentious poetry is one thing; being out in it is another. Steve looks over at Jonathan, smiling softly at the blush on his cheeks, at the water drops on his collarbone. Then he frowns when he sees the goosebumps on Jon’s flesh. Steve gingerly wraps an arm around him, pulling him closer.
“Hey,” Jonathan says pointedly, but makes no effort to wiggle from the grip.
“No one’s around, and you’re freezing,” Steve dismisses, pulling Jonathan in tighter. He smirks and leans into him, looking around. “I think I have an idea to pass the time.”
“Yeah?” Jonathan asks, smiling over at him.
“Yeah,” Steve says, licking his lips before leaning in, catching Jonathan’s lips between his. It’s always like the first time, despite kissing him for months. It makes Steve feel like the ground is jell-o, like things are in place. Steve pulls back quickly, not wanting to risk anything, but Jon pulls him back in for another quick one.
The exchange continues, each one keeping an eye out for anyone as they lean in, pressing lips together. Jonathan curses Steve for wanting to see a movie instead of staying in - they could do a lot more at home. But he’ll take this rain-laced torture if it meant having Steve.
They’re both a bit dizzy when they realize the rain had let up, and Steve sighs and smiles at Jonathan. “I’ll race you.”
“No,” Jonathan starts, but Steve’s already taking off, giggling and clutching the umbrella in his hands as he jogs towards his BMW. Jonathan laughs fondly before jogging after him.
