How I feel about this character.
Listen...I love Sam Arias. I LOVE her. A whole freaking lot. She just checks so many boxes. Beautiful/sexy/legs for days/looks good in suits/congrats on the hair/face/neck? Intelligent? Successful? Is a good mom and loves her daughter more than anything? Dorky pancake o clock side? Good bean? Great dynamics with Lena, Alex and Kara? “I’m like Supergirl” reaction to finding out she has powers? No comp het hell? Best redemption arc on this show/in the Arrowverse? Need I say more?
She also strikes this balance for me of having so much in canon to adore about her but also enough room to fill in the blanks and be versatile with her in fanon that it doesn’t feel entirely ooc...which is awesome for an aspiring storyteller.

Oh god this is such a call out to my multishipping ways. First of all, Alex Danvers is her wife. She & Lena fuuuuuuucked in Metropolis. I am currently obsessed with idea of her angry hate-sex dynamic with Andrea (that may or may not feature them cursing at each other in Spanish, both when Lena wants them to play nice but they don’t want to so they switch to sniping in Spanish because Lena was forced to take Latin but ESPECIALLY in the bedroom) and it’s all @stennnn06’s fault (thank you Sten 😉.)
I headcanon that Sam knew she was a lesbian in her early teens. Her sleeping with a guy and conceiving Ruby was more about her being in denial about her feelings for her best friend at the time/desperately trying to conform to heteronormativity (because peer pressure) while at the same time rebelling against her mother. I mention this because I created an OC that was Sam’s best friend whom she loved in high school. She finds out post Ruby’s birth that her friend liked her back and they at least kiss one time (maybe they hook up, maybe not) because they’re both really young, going in different directions and weren’t ready for the long haul (or u-haul, as the case may be.)
Its also amusing to think of Sam having a fling with Lucy in the land of forgotten characters after season 3. I like the idea of her and Kelly too. They’re both beautiful, I think they’d get along and I like tall/smol dynamics. Sam/Alex/Kelly and Sam/Alex/Lena are OT3s and Sam/Lena/Andrea is just delicious. Wasn’t a fan of Sam/Kara until I read that one fic where Kara works at the juice bar at Sam’s new gym.
And last but certainly not least (as if they even were a least with Handsome Sam), if I’m not the founder of the S.S. Wonderreign, I’m definitely one of its first and largest supporters. Swords and beautiful women, amirite? But also the idea of Sam recovering on Themyscira post-Reign and Diana believing in San and helping her heal in more ways than one is something I’ve wanted for over two years now.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Jack Spheer. You know they knew each other in Metropolis through Lena and even if there may have been some competition for her affections a long time ago, they’d strike up a bond all their own. Also Kara in non-juice bar AU settings...they were both adopted! and super! And they never talked about it! Gah!
My unpopular opinion about this character
Message me if you want to know who Ruby’s father is in my crack AU. Also, I like Rojascorp and it think it is more popular at the moment but I personally still prefer Reigncorp (I know, I know...why not both and you’re right but still...I’m hard pressed for an unpopular opinion on Sam. Most of her fans are on the same page about her.)
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
Her marrying Alex. Or confirmation of past Reigncorp. In either event she kept her freaking powers and Lena made her a better version of the big lesbian Reign sword that she uses when she’s Superwoman, but she’s only Superwoman reluctantly. She doesn’t do it every night like Kara because she has Ruby but she will help when she’s needed.
