Jack Duquesne was both creepy and charming in “Hawkeye” on Disney+, and in Marvel Comics, the Swordsman started a war in Southeast Asia, trained Hawkeye and married Mantis from “Guardians of the Galaxy” as an alien plant zombie. Read /Film for more.

Tony goes into the Vietnamese jungle to make sure his weapons are working as planned.  He triggers a booby trap and is captured by Wong-Chu.  Wong-Chu knows he has shrapnel near his heart and that it’s inoperable, but he wants to trick Tony into helping him before he dies.  Tony sees right through it.

A really interesting difference between MCU and 616 Iron Man origin stories is that the drama in 616 Tony’s story is largely about the contrast between his apparently charmed life and his secretly doomed life (the ticking time bomb of his heart and the likelihood that his secret identity will be revealed), rather than the change of heart/redemption arc of MCU’s IM1 where he has a change in his outlook and understanding of his place in the world and responsibilities to it, both through SI and as Iron Man. 

616 Tony isn’t really presented as a person with anything to atone for, at least until the 70s when public sentiment had turned against American militarism in a big way.

But in any case, because of this, the entire captivity arc is played very differently throughout. Also, there is a huge helping of blatantly racist yellow peril imagery and ideology couched in anti-communist sentiment in early IM and other early Marvel comics. But seeing as Tony is largely created as the US capitalist and industrialist answer to the communist threat, representing American ingenuity and the benevolent paternalistic boss/owner/capitalist, his villains gallery, replete with Chinese and Russian baddies, tends toward this more so even than other books.

Out with the old, in with the new. March 1963 saw the end of the premature Incredible Hulk series, and in turn envisioned a brand new character by the name of Iron Man. Of course by now in 2011, everyone and their grandmother know who Iron Man is, but as far as origin stories go, this one was a pretty solid beginning for Stark. There are some rough patches here and there (the usual Lieber and Lee shtick of the hero overcoming odds with cunning rather than pure brawn works at odds with a guy seemingly working inside an iron suit), most notably in Don Heck's somewhat ambiguous, murky art, but generally Iron Man's beginnings here are a good read and leave a lot of room for interesting characterisation that may build upon the "tragic" side of Stark's empowerment.
