Hardwood and Softwood: Their Differences and Uses

When you classify wood as either hardwood or softwood, it comes down to the differences in their physical structure and makeup.

 So it is easier to think of hardwood as being hard and durable as compared to softwood, which is taken to be softer and more pliant. There are exceptions to this rule. For example, Yew tree is a softwood but relatively hard and Balsa wood, which is a hardwood is softer than a softwood.

Wood dust from sanding should be removed before staining, either by using cheesecloth moistened with varnish or water OR with a soft bristle attachment on the end of the vacuum.
