White wood aster (Eurybia divaricata). According to Google, it's listed as a threatened species in Canada but not an issue here in the US. Native Americans used the roots in soups & the leaves were cooked lightly & eaten as greens. The shade tolerant, herbaceous perennial Eurybia divaricata (white wood aster) has a delicate habit with dark, almost black, wiry stems with masses of tiny white flowers from late summer onwards.
