I swear I'm not dead, just overwhelmed 😅
Slowly fighting my way through the wool washing experiment to finish the article until fall (I try to miss the TdF as a motivator, but it's still going sooooo slow 😭)
Wedge has taken over the spot where I've been doing a lot of wool combing. We have straight up gone from cold war to just short of all out aggression over this chair
In his defense, he coordinates very well.
Full sized wool combs(4 inch width)! With a holder! For under $200! I'll make leather covers, but they do make magnetic wood ones. My louet minis also need covers.
The Woolery stocks this brand but the manufacturer started selling direct on etsy for a little less. (Bam fiberworks)
Also the Howard brush outlet on etsy has factory second set of student cards for $48
Unpaid labour is not less work for being uncompensated. Nor does it fail to be of value to the world even if the world does not value it. When we enumerate and quantify all things by a metric of arbitrary measures controlled by a few isolated privileged egotists, we all lose. The ineffable cannot be quantified. Wabi sabi cannot be made into an algorithm and AI cannot break the rules.
Combing! I'm using uncapping forks (new ones, but as a beekeeper I was already familiar with them, and they're less than $5 each) and a piece of wood I intended for a spindle whorl as a diz.
I'm pleased to see how well this gets out the smaller bits of vegetable matter, and the short pieces/second cuts. This is definitely a slow way to do this, but then I'm a slow spinner so it's probably about right for me. I don't need to prep the whole fleece & then have a marathon of spinning, I can just comb a little, spin it, then comb more as I like.
Combing Wool
Here’s a video of me combing wool. It’s a meditative process that is a part of my daily routine. It’s wonderful to see how felted, dusty wool becomes a fluffy and cloud like in texture.

I have now combed a grand total of...
.
.
13 grams of wool 😅
And there's 10 grams of short&dirty bits, waste. The combing gets that stuff out pretty well.
