Some pics of the handspun wool lace knit hood that my beautiful wife made for me. This was a birthday gift and I got to wear it on my birthday expedition on a restored Edwardian-era train :) I love wearing it because I feel like I'm going on a wintry fairy tale adventure!
The pattern is the Cashmere Lace Hood by Jennifer Miller Comstock (ravelry link) and it's free! The wool was a gift from a dear friend who had already washed it, so my wife just had to card and spin.

Well, time flies, energy is low. I originally planned on spinning the art batt I carded last year to celebrate Taash Week, but RL kicked me in the ass (yet again). So instead, I decided to take a couple glamour shots of the Taash batt and hopefully work on spinning it at a later date. I do have plans, I promise!
This batt is 40g, and consists of a mix of merino, baby camel, baby alpaca and silk dyed in different shades of teal, seafoam, mint green and grey. For a pop of colour and a more interesting texture representing the Lords and Taash's dar-saam, I added recycled sari silk in red with multicolour nepps.
I'm not completely sure yet how I want to process this batt, but I am thinking something with an autowrap thread and possibly some gold coins hung on it here and there? Time will tell. But I am very happy about how this came out :)

I had been spinning some 100% Gotland wool roving that I dyed quite a few years ago in my dyeing infancy. The colors came out beautifully but the fiber was a little felted. It got stuck in a bag and then packed away for moving, which totally didn’t help with the compacting of the fibers over time. It’s not spinable as it sits in braids, I’ve tried. So I have been drum carding the 1 oz braids into batts a few at a time before I predraft the individual color sections and spin them.
I can’t spin at the moment bc my right knee that was injured in an accident a year ago is still recovering from overuse from spinning for a few days straight. I admit I was overzealous in my return to spinning. So today I did some bulk fiber prep today with my drum carder. I got four ounces carded this afternoon.
The batts came out lovely. I can hardly wait until I can get back to spinning them.

Wool washing day was a whole afternoon affair. This is my 700 grams of merino suffolk cross from Scotts Creek Farm in NSW, Australia.
First pic is the wool in the second bath with dirt water from the initial bath in the other bucket. Next pictures are from halfway through the soap baths and the last soap bath where the water is pretty clear showing no more dirt or lanolin is being drawn from the wool.
I like to dry my locks on a herb dryer I got from amazon. Once completely dry (which took a few days in Aussie summer) I was rewarded with lovely fluffy wool, with a tight, springy crimp. Don’t worry about the dirt on the lock ends, it’s been fried from the washing and will fall right out during the next processing stage.
a few days ago I got a pound of raw leicester longwool fleece in the mail. ive never processed raw wool before but I watched a few tutorials on youtube and just went for it. only washed/scoured a handful of locks to start with which made pretty much zero dent in the bag so i have a lot more work to do.
Anyway they turned out well, so today I spent some time flicking/brushing them with my cheapo dog brush to fluff them up (I dont have fiber combs) and they are soooo nice and silky.
idk how i should spin this wool yet. I was thinkin once I wash some more of it i could card them with the drum carder cuz they're too long for my hand carders. but I honestly don't think it'd do much more than what I've been already doing, aside from being able to get some large batts to work with instead of individual locks? I could spin the fluffed up locks as is or could spin them from the fold too. idk
they are very farm-scented and full of lanolin before washing, but after a few scours they are a very pretty silvery color with tan tips and no longer smell like a barn. these ones could've maybe used one more scour because they are still a tiny bit greasy but it didn't bug me that much
Since I've cleared my Dorset Horn spinning, I figured it was time to start another Shave 'Em to Save 'Em project. I'd gotten a good chunk of Lincoln fleece at last year's Sheep and Wool Festival so I started washing and combing it.
Lincoln is so dang pretty, y'all. It's SO pretty.
