Wool Dryer Balls
Lately, I’ve been looking into all the ways I can make doing laundry more inexpensive and less of a hassle. So, when I heard about wool dryer balls, I had to check them out.
First off, I just have to say that I was skeptical that they would actually do what was claimed. I had no idea how something so small and seemingly insignificant could cause such a big difference. I also need to mention that I changed my sorting system at the same time. I think this contributed some to these changes, but I mostly think the dryer ball had most to do with it.
Ok, so here goes what I’d heard about dryer balls before I started using them myself. I had heard that they would shorten drying time, and also served as a fabric softener and to help keep static down.
When I first bought my dryer balls, I only bought 3, and then wondered why my dry time was no different, so I Googled some stuff, and it turns out that most people use about 9 dryer balls. So, I ordered 6 more. Now’s when I really started to see some improvement.
My drying time decreased by 20 minutes, and my clothes weren’t static anymore. I know some of that can be attributed to me now sorting my clothes, but I was still really impressed.
Initially, I had been doing laundry with everything all mixed together. So some of the load had things with a short dry time, and some things took a lot longer, so everything was in the dryer for the longer time. Now, I separate the laundry out into jeans, towels, whites, and everything else. This way, I can pinpoint all my drying times, and use my dryer much more efficiently.
With my dryer balls and homemade laundry detergent, I think doing my laundry goes much smoother, and it many, many times more frugal than it used to be. After being such a skeptic about dryer balls, I would now recommend them to any and every one who wants to do away with dryer sheets and wants to shorten their drying times.
