why is it that absolutely no word processor recognises that a word with 's on the end is still spelled properly. why is it i can add, say, the name claire to the dictionary on word or libre or what have you, and then when i type claire's i have to specify that no, trust me, it's okay, this is spelled correctly, this is a common and standard feature of english, please just go with it. why have i had to put up with it for the past twenty plus years of using computers. why has no one added a line of code to their word processor's spell check to correct this

i am looking for a word processor that:

i can buy ONCE and then OWN FOREVER

i can download to my personal computer

does not require an internet connection

will not force or even, ideally, require me to update it, ever

i believe microsoft word is now in its death throes vis a vis providing me with these things, despite my paying a not-insignificant amount of money last year to get a one-time, forever use version of it. (yes, i AM so mad it looks like they lied to me about that. i am going to be so mad about it forever).

does anyone have suggestions on this front?

I’m at a library with this thing and the Wi-Fi seems to connect but when I log into the cloud based backup system it just repeatedly asks me to enter my email.

Also this thing’s keyboard is loud enough for me to be self conscious while using it here and I press o. The keys as gently as possible.

Actually sitting at a desk and putting words into it feels nicer than I expected, especially since this has a screen that actually displays text entered in real time, unlike the other Freewrite models.

Okay time to get out my Pomera DM 100 from almost 20 years ago to actually be able to do some useful work on my next project.
