Welcome to the Renaissance Festival

For my words added I wanted to use my time at the Renaissance Festival this year since it was such a happy memory for me. I used to go to the Renaissance Festival every year but as I got older I stopped going. This year my friends surprised me with tickets and we went together. I got to relive some of my happiest moments but as a young adult. Despite the horrible sunburn I loved every second.

For this assignment adding words to each layer proved a little challenging because the images did not have a consistent space that was either dark or light enough for the lettering to be seen so I decided to add a colored background behind the words so they could stand out. However the font I chose may make it hard to read so just in case,

Welcome to the Renaissance Festival

A magical place to hide in trees

Smile as you see a whole new world

Cast spells with bubbles

Duel your enemies

And always find joy and laughter

If you have never been to the Renaissance Festival, the turkey leg is always recommended… but from me: hidden in the back corner is a stand with flavored sorbet served in an orange and make sure to always leave with a bag of roasted cinnamon almonds.

Summer 2021

For the words added assignment, I decided to create a video featuring some of the places I traveled over the summer. I went to a large variety of places, and even went on my first vacation with a friend. To make this video more visually interesting to watch, I decided to change the text color for each location, as well as play around with making an introduction screen. I loved getting to try out different backgrounds, especially using the gradient tool. I thought the blue-green background was perfect for summer vibes. I'll definitely be incorporating the gradient tool into other projects in the future.

The Beach Feels Like Home

For this gif assignment, I really wanted to capture a few of the different places I have traveled to in the last year. One of the most important parts of my life is traveling, adventuring and immersing myself into different and new cultures. I also wanted my text to tell a story, so I came up with a quick little poem to “caption” the photos. I played around with upping the saturation with a few photos, but I really wanted to keep the photos pure. I added a drop shadow for the text to make it stand out a little bit. I hope you all enjoy 😊

A Solar-Powered Trip to Hawaii

For my “Words Added” gif assignment, I wanted to play around with representing lyrics through visuals. I used two verses from “Solar Power” by Lorde and paired it with eight images I took from my last trip to Hawaii. Both the visuals and the lyrics give off very similar energies and themes, which are both about reconnecting with nature. Specifically, both the images and the lyrics put one’s headspace into a beachy and sunny atmosphere full of light rays and ocean waters. I enjoyed deciding where to place the text for each photo, as well as deciding what color the text would be for each image.

The boy who gives me blue popsicles

I decided to make my “text gif” for my boyfriend, Eduardo. As you all know, I was an intern with the Savannah Bananas this past Summer, and I met my boyfriend through the internship. He was a player and I was the intern in the dugout. Before the start of EVERY game, he brought me a BLUE POPSICLE from the locker room. On our very last day of being in Savannah, GA, we made one last stop at the field before our road trip across the country started. He took me down to the locker room, grabbed his baseball stuff, and gave me one last blue popsicle to end the summer. That photo can be seen at the end of my gif! Though I definitely love him more than a lot of things, my love for blue popsicles is pretty big... so he definitely knows I mean it!

CHAOS

So this one was a doozy. Or whatever the kids say. Trying to figure this out today was absolutely INSANE. It was hard to make my gif because of a multitude of technical difficulties, but in the end I had a lot of fun playing with the fill bucket on one of my previous filtered photos. Since there were so many smaller sections of color, it filled in splotches, so it added some really cool effects. I added the “hello” to test the text feature and it made me laugh so hard that I just left it there. It was incredibly off-putting to see that blast of chaos between the photos in the gif that matched, but that’s exactly how the day felt - chaotic.
