As some of you may know, my sister has just lost her 3 year old Macaw, Atlas. As much as she treated this bird as a child, most importantly Atlas was there for her therapy. She had helped Sarah thorugh many mental illness episodes, as well as coping with sadness. I am starting this fundraiser in...
My name is Sarah. I have diagnosed PTSD, BPD, and Anxiety. Three days ago I lost my support animal, a macaw named Atlas, unexpectedly to Avian Bornavirus. Atlas was only three years old. She was a wonderful companion to me and I have been absolutely devastated by this loss.
She was not simply a pet, but a companion trained to talk me out of bad panic attacks or disassociativ episodes, remind me to take my meds, and just generally be there as a support system. Once about a year and a half ago, I took a bunch of pills in an attempt to take my own life. This bird screamed, and screamed, and screamed bloody murder so bad my roomate came inside from gardening. She let herself out of the cage, and brought him upstairs where she began to chew on the bottom of the bathroom door, signaling him where to find me.
If it were not for this bird, I would be dead. I owe her my life and I’m so upset I could not do more for her. My sister was kind enough to start this go-fund-me in the attempt of easing the cost of another companion, and though nothing could take Atlas’ place, I would greatly appreciate any and all support. Thank you so much for your time, and if you would at least share this, thank you. <3
