What do you think of the theory that Jane is a demon?
🤔 to discuss a specific theory (mun responds)
I’ve got some posts about that, so I would suggest trying to narrow the posts down to #jane or #jane the maid.
I am completely on the fence about this theory, since there are good points for it and good points against it.
If pressed to choose a side, I would say “No”... but only because it seems way too odd for a demon to walk away from a contract like that... unless the contract Jane is honoring isn’t with anyone within Heathfield Manor. It’s possible she is simply returning somewhere to report on the outcome of an assignment, but. Ahhhhh.... It looks to me like she’s a trained and skilled private soldier... but human... and this work contract was not worth the hassle anymore.
Come to think of it, the fact she mentions not being able to get a letter of recommendation suggests she could really use one. Why would a demon care about something like a letter of recommendation or job references?
I’d say the biggest evidence in favor of Jane being a demon is how she talks about the terms of the contract in a fashion similar to how Sebastian nit-picks over the wording and specifications of contract terms. Both are concerned with the potential loopholes they can find — not just to close them, if it would not benefit them — but also to take advantage of any loopholes that do benefit them.
This whole situation irks me, since it’s one of the numerous cases where characters aren’t asking the right questions. Jane said she knew nothing about the blood — where it goes or why — but Mey-Rin and Ran-Mao should have asked her whether she could elaborate on the “shapes” of souls. Because that’s bound to come up again....
