The new guy that was hired and started in June quit abruptly today. His wife is pregnant with her first and he told us she had an emergency last Friday. Apparently, baby's legs are hitting a fibroid and is causing mom a lot of pain. He's quitting to focus to take care of her
In workland, we did get a couple of priority requests this month and I've been rolling with it and trying to impart information.
I think part of his issue is he's not had to be flexible and creative in solutions. There's a difference between a developer who's mainly had contract work and has just been sort of a cog in the machine. You can hide in those situations, pretty well. In this role, you can't really hide. You have to be able to own things but you don't have corporate oversight that's stifles you. It's a small team that depends on you.
I also kind of wonder if he's overemployed. He doesn't have a LinkedIn and I was not sure whether or not to attribute some of the level of work and distractedness due to just life because he and I were moving into new houses within 3 weeks of each other. So I know how distracted you can be with that process.
I can't imagine not working in this economy at the moment. Especially with the fact that he's got a new mortgage and it's his first mortgage and he's got a child on the way. This mainly points towards the fact that he either found something else that pays more, he was working more than one job and couldn't balance it, or he and his wife are very lucky and have familial wealth to where they don't have to worry about both of them working.
Anyway, I'm hoping he's not one of these rapture people. It's a bit surprising seeing people who are selling their shit and quitting their jobs.
