This is gonna be stupid and i should probably know......But but is a Pseudo? Or a Pseudo Revenant? seeing the other questioning and you answering it seems like a 'Pregnant Sans'? And Hallelujah im so glad im not the only one who doesnt like Fontcest... Phew.... i dont feel so alone :D
Nope, you shouldn’t know what a pseudo-Revenant is yet, because I haven’t told anybody.
So, Pseudo Revenants
A pseudo-Revenant is actually a monster hybrid created from a human child.
Before you ask: No, Frisk can’t become one, they are too old for that.
Now hold on to your heads and click that ‘read more’ at your own risk, because this might get a bit disturbing and a reminder that some of these monsters are based on horrifying legends.
Pseudos are a sort of safety net in the Revenant gene pool. Revenants often stay together in large families, so at one point you might be related to someone as brother and sister, uncle and niblets, and so on. So there are three ways to solve this problem.
Adopt a child from an eradicated family.
Bring home a solitary individual from an eradicated family.
Create a Pseudo
Creating a Pseudo is basically a prenatal adoption. When a Revenant finds a dead, pregnant woman (or kills one themself in some extreme cases), a pouch bearing individual might feel compelled to eat the entire womb whole. If the fetus inside is dead, dying or older than 4 months, they will throw everything back up within 2 weeks. If the conditions are just right though, they will throw up the human’s flesh, but the baby will stay inside.
Before the 5th month of pregnancy, the fetus’ soul is still susceptible to magic. The new Revenant parent can’t do much with the human flesh, but the baby itself will start to change under the influence of the monster’s presence. In some cases, a mated couple can add both their magical signatures to the baby. Because of this, some Pseudos can have the genetic make-up of up to 4 individuals. They use that of their Revenant parent(s) to create a magic signature and to translate their human DNA, and that of their biological parents will create them as an individual.
Once the fetus has adapted and turned into a Pseudo Revenant, they will grow up like normal Revenants and their new parent(s) will raise and love them as their own.
Pseudos can be visually differentiated from thoroughbred Revenants: While Revenants have 3 toes on each foot and 4 fingers on each paw, Pseudos have 5 of each, just like humans. Their crests and tails also tend to grow slower, and they usually don’t l get as old as full Revenants.
Pseudos can have some human behaviors, like having an inherent desire to cuddle or kiss. They will also be able to learn human speech pretty fast compared to full Revenants, while animalistic sounds are more of a challenge. They also have a partially human soul, making it almost half as strong as a human’s. On the downside though, despite having an immense amount of energy to form magic, they will never be able to use it beyond what’s necessary to survive.
Pseudos can later go on to mate with Revenants just fine. They will pass on a fully magic version of their human DNA to their softbones, and whether they mate with a Revenant or another Pseudo, the baby will be born a propper Revenant. These babybones have full access to their magic abilities, but they have a higher chance for some form of mutation and are also much stronger than others of their age.
During the war between humans and monsters, especially Pseudos were in a lot of trouble. Not only could they not properly use magic to defend themself, but people purposefully sought them out. Because unlike most monsters, who turned to dust after death, a dead Pseudo would leave behind trophies to collect.
So after the ask about experience I was curious about Ceyx's age, so I looked for it... apparently Ceyx is younger than the MC? How old is the MC?
I don't have exact numbers but MC would probably been born around the same time as Battle of Thermopylae and the Spartan 300, so we're talking late 400 BCE. By contrast, Ceyx was born about a hundred years later, around the time the Ptolemies took over Egypt. This is mentioned in a later scene where Ceyx remarks that he "could have shared a cradle" with Alexander the Great's son.
The game takes place in about 60 AD so MC would be a bit over 500 years old, which is when angels reach adulthood.
So MC is 500-ish and that’s when nephilim etc reach adulthood, but Ceyx is 100 years younger, so not yet an adult. How does that work for romance? Someone who reached adulthood and someone who isn’t one. Or am I confusing things?
No, not really confusing things. It's a mistake on my part because I'm terrible at math and my notes are all over the place.
I'm going to amend previous posts to reflect this but I'm switching the birthdates for MC and Ceyx so everything checks out.
I need to keep the dates because Thermopylae and Alexander the Great are mentioned in game, and it makes much more sense when you consider what happened at Thermopylae and that Ceyx's father was Samael, the angel of death.
Loved that spoiler but curious - what is deadland law?
This comes into play later in the series and plays a big part in gameplay, but Deadland Law is basically like it says; a compilation of laws in the land of the dead (AKA the Deadlands). Since Hell is technically a branch of the Deadlands, everyone there has to abide by these laws. Some examples of these laws include who gets to make the laws (basically the hierarchy, which I'll get into in a post later) how laws are enforced, ect.
I should also say this plays a big part in what ending you get based on how much of the Deadland Laws you follow and how many you break or change. You get the opportunity to study Deadland Law if you want to in Book 1 and you can go the Democratic Route by following these laws, or alternatively you can choose not to and go the Tyrany Route.
