Time period- Color and subgenre’s

I did say I was going to take a break from these for awhile and I am, but it’s on the condition of me actually having something to make a full post. Now I do!

For those unaware this is a series (all are tagged along with my Details series) of posts going into some stuff around the time period of the movie.

I started this series as I realized some people may not know a bunch about the 70s and hopefully it’ll help/inspire people to write more stuff set in the canon time. (Also hopefully help us move away from chat fics)

People are much more committed to their subgenre’s and their cliques. Now days while having a main interest or fashion style , people are much more inclined to have a little bit of everything. Back in the day if you’re goth you’re goth or if you’re punk you’re punk. Metal your metal- this is around “poser” being a actual insult/thing. (In context, Vance as a metalhead wouldn’t start listening to Pop- or at least be caught dead listening to it)

That goes for clothes, music, lifestyle etc.

Another clothing trend is hair being generally? Fluffier? Even if it’s short it has a fluffy, bouncy blow out look. Fluff > curl (not to say shaggy curls like Vance’s weren’t popular as well just not as much)

Long hair. Mentioned hair before in previous ones and it did have a “rebel” connotation to it back then when it came to guys (beyond shoulder or to the ass) but it was also EVERYONE. also just? Longer hairstyles were just a thing - (I feel like today most guys have their hair cropped like extra short to their head-) styles like finney’s are like a short middle ground?

Short shorts. Short shorts everywhere. Same with cutt off’s (this is the beginning of it more so but)

Brown. Everything is brown. Like there is no way to underestimate how brown everything is. Woodgrain, wood paneling etc. I mentioned this before but I have examples. If it’s not wood it’s very likely to be warm/neutral tones.

The rainbow is also absolutely everywhere! Design to clothes. Everywhere (we see it with Gwen’s one puffer coat). This was also wayyy before it was associated with the Gay community for added context. (It’s a personal peeve of mine for people using modern flags/symbols and phrasing for LGBT related stuff when it straight up wasn’t around at the time or was niche etc. i recommend looking up old symbols etc)

Creative insults! A lot of stuff we consider “cheesy” now days were once actually a good insult or slang phrase. Moron, Dork, spaz etc (seriously old slang is a huge rabbit hole and they’re always so fun? I recommend looking it up there’s a lot of enthusiastic people with sites for slang and insults of the 70s and 80s)

I've been thinking a lot about daemons and about the cultural and social difference between people and how it would affect a daemon. I think that even though we are creatures so different from each other, we all share certain traits common to people of our nationality. For example, as much as there are some exceptions, we Brazilians will always prefer to laugh at misfortune rather than cry (our famous “laugh not to cry”); not to mention our innate instinct to try to fix things we don't know (gambiarra) and then continue using those things, because the gambiarra worked. Or our need to physically interact with each other. Or our baby talk. Anyway, not all people have these characteristics, but the vast majority of Brazilians do and therefore can be considered as a characteristic of these people.

 

Thinking a little more, I tried to apply this in some way to our daemons. So, in a world where daemons are corporeal, Brazilian daemons would be:

 

1 - Cute and Beautiful> Brazilians tend to soften words or curl up a lot to say things that will offend someone or bring about conflict. Generally, we are kind and affectionate and have an air of nonchalance, which makes me think that even the most ferocious daemons would naturally end up with a more fluffy and beautiful coat to disguise their ferocity (because despite wanting to please and being somewhat soft, we are not afraid to get into a fight or argument, especially if more of us are involved). So, for example, if I have a wolf daemon, his coat would be more fluffy, and he would be in the habit of walking with his head up (since his head is down and his eyes are very threatening to the wolf). It is almost like seeing wild animals reduced to domestic animals. >> Perhaps in this universe, this cutest appearance of the daemons will help to feed the stereotype of “open and receptive people”.

 

2 - Open - Brazilians are very fond of physical approach and also feel connected in some way with the people we are talking to (that's why we tend to give nicknames to people). Conversations between us are often confusing, with people interrupting each other and talking and laughing out loud (again, in most people). We rarely have formalities between us, whether older or new, or political or not; these things do not exist, especially in the area of ​​physical contact. I think that one of the big taboos that appear in the book and in the series, which is that daemons shouldn't talk to other people, maybe they didn't exist here, with daemons, a few times, interrupting or giving their own opinion in a conversation.

 

3 - Carefree and Ethnic Variety - With the blood of several countries running through our veins, it is not strange that Brazilians do not have a stereotype of the body. From extremely white people to the point of turning pepper in the sun to that most beautiful black color, we have everything, literally, and it is kind of difficult to define a Brazilian just by his appearance. Brazilian daemons would also carry that kind of exotic air, not adapting to the environment, but sporting shapes that would hardly fit normally (?). This is a point to be discussed, as I am not very sure how the way a person sees his body would be reflected by his daemon, but I think this lack of "etiquette" would help to bring a greater variety of, at the very least, coat —I do not say that there is no stereotype of the body between us, but that with so many people in one place, the different becomes normal. As for the carefree, we generally like to enjoy the now. We have a very strong attachment at lunchtime (which we usually reserve from 1 to 2 hours for this) and we have many holidays, in addition to living life more slowly, according to some foreigners. I think that this thing of enjoying a lot of time with friends and with ourselves can reflect on the daemons as to the time to settle down. I see young people in their twenties, twenty-one, with unstable daemons and there is no strangeness about it.

 

I think I already said too much. But am I really curious to know what you guys think about it? And what would the stereotypes of your country's daemons look like?
