Il World Radio Day!
Time to Celebrate this #WorldRadioDay with your favourite RJs :) Do share your memorable Kissaaa With them.. tag your fav RJ .. make them feel special the way they do every morning / evening / night on #Radio ❤️ (at Ahmedabad, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/Btz-MMsHw4A/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=pyo9m95v9rqp

13 February is World Radio Day, celebrating 71 years of UN Radio!
United Nations Radio has come a long way from the 1946 makeshift studios and offices at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where it transmitted its first call sign: “This is the United Nations calling the peoples of the world.” News bulletins and feature programmes were broadcast in the Organization’s then five official languages – Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish – for 9 to 12 hours each day. Arabic was added in 1974. Despite the surge in modern technologies, radio remains the world's most most wide-reaching media. Radio is a dynamic and engaging platform that offers audiences new ways to participate and communicate with diverse audiences.
Several peacekeeping missions have radio stations that connect local populations with each other. These stations include Radio Miraya in South Sudan, Radio Okapi in the DRC, MINUSTAH FM in Haiti and Guira FM in CAR. UN Radio no longer broadcasts in the traditional sense. Instead, all audio content is placed online at unmultimedia.org/radio where it can be downloaded and used by broadcasters or individuals. Many of our reports may rebroadcasted by many hundred of partners around the world so you might hear our reporters on a radio station near you.
