“I have...a mission coming up. It has the potential to yield some very important results we need to contend with the coming threats.”
Winter spoke softly, and you wouldn’t have known the specialist, for all her calm, was terrified. But the process for this particular recon mission was experimental at best.
“I have a fifty fifty chance of coming back from it,” She continued as she settled her hands in her lap. She hadn’t liked falling back to Atlas, but she understood the orders. They needed the bulk of their strength there for the coming days.
The General...did not approve of this plan. However, he hadn’t been able to deny the potential advantages. So he hadn’t refused to allow it, either.
Which of course meant now that she was about to partake this extremely risky task, the word was that Team RWBY and company were bound for Atlas.
And arrived, by the time she was having this conversation. “-I know this is an odd thing to say. As I’m an unusual person and keep to myself. But if I began to act...unusual. Or out of character. Would you be able to tell?”

Cinder had attended the party to make contact. It hadn’t been a long meeting-catching up with Neo to arrange the next stage of the plan since someone had gotten arrested. She didn’t know where the young woman with two toned hair had gone, but she’d descended back downstairs into the chaos of young adults celebrating. What they were celebrating was anyone’s guess. A birthday? An engagement? A victory? She didn’t keep track of much of those. She had planned to leave after. She had learned since arriving in Vale exactly how much alcohol she should drink-none. Except of course someone challenged her. That had become a drinking contest. Now? Now she had absolutely no idea who had won, not was she really focused on anything at that moment. Two things were predominantly on her mind. The first was that her heels were not made for dancing, The second? “I fucking love this song!”

Okay, yes, to be fair, playing with Ozpin’s cane while Oscar was napping had probably been a terrible decision. But it’s not like Jaune had expected a magical vortex of doom to be the defense mechanism. Maybe a little electric jolt, like Nora’s hammer. Okay, and to be fair, he had survived. He definitely wasn’t in a magical Vortex of doom, and he wasn’t dead. He thought he was back at Beacon, except something seemed really weird about it. Jaune rubbed the back of his head as he clambered to his feet, counting the small blessings he hadn’t disarmed or changed into his pajamas yet. Vytal Festival? He noticed the poster, and it occurred to him the campus was way more in tact and way less infested with Grimm. He shook his head and sprinted over, only to stare in shock and slap his hands over his face. “Vytal Festival Number Forty Nine?” That couldn’t be right. Nope. It had been seventy four. Hadn’t it? “Scuse me-scuse me-” He sprinted, looking for someone who looked like an adult, or at least, more responsible. “Has anyone seen Professor Oobleck, Peach, or Port?” Hell, he’d have settled for Ruby’s uncle, at that point.
Special Operations || WORRP Open
Much of the Dust in Remnant had been stolen. While signs pointed to Roman Torchwick, that didn’t explain where the Dust was going.
Winter had been notified that there appeared to be a supply of it heading into Mistral. It was believed that it was probably in the hands of the common criminals, but she found it unlikely. Dust was expensive, even stolen Dust on the black market.
She had been told when the shipment was coming in, and told handling it was at her discretion. The Specialist had decided the best method was to monitor where the dust was bound, to track every link in the chain, to the buyer, or buyers, as may be the case.
Speed and silence had been important in tracking the responsible party, both granted to Winter by the family Glyphs. Despite being of a well known family, she had proven herself to be excellent at shadowing, at blending in, at being the silent witness.
They had made camp, she could see their campfire, so she made her own camp without light. That was when she realized she wasn’t as alone in the night as she thought she was. Had someone seen her?
She spun on a Glyph and drew her blade, pale blue eyes narrowed at the new comer, her blade extended, a harsh whisper escaping before she even knew who she was dealing with. “What are you doing here?”

“So apparently I won a contest or something that I don’t remember entering but that’s not the point.”
“The point is,” Jaune announced, perhaps a bit giddy, “Apparently I have won a weekend in a cabin in the Emerald Forest! Does anyone want to come?”

Something had happened to her. But she hadn’t told anyone in the caravan. Amber had helped a dying stranger by holding her hand. Then there had been a freak storm, and she’d been caught in a whirlwind so strong it had picked her off in the ground. Thunder had cracked, and lightning struck, and then she’d whited out.
She wasn’t like some of the Mystics in the caravan. She couldn’t see the read the past in a person’s palm, and the future was a mystery to her because tea leaves and tarot told her nothing.
But she knew there were things in the world. People dismissed them as explained-Semblances, Aura, and Dust-like that somehow made them less magical. Even Grimm were probably some sort of mystery of extraordinary measure.
Something had happened to the nomad. Something she couldn’t understand yet. So Amber had continued on with her life. She’d set traps for the hunt, like she always did. That day she was out checking them to bring back to camp.
She knew these woods well. They traveled them regularly when the seasons were sunny and warm-they prospered with game and fruit.
So she knew she wasn’t alone and gripped her staff a little tighter. Calming herself-not wanting to inexplicably cause another small fire, as she had a few times since that fateful storm.
Warm golden eyes scanned the foliage, and she finally spoke. Dismissing it as coincidence. “Are you lost in the woods? You wouldn’t be the first!” She called out as she spun, “I’m a fairly good navigator, and I know the forest well, if you need a handle finding your way!”

Set In The AU: Fire & Ice ; Post V5, in which an experimental technology was used to project Winter into Cinder’s body. Among other things. Location: Salem’s Castle
They had told her to relax, and that she would fade unconscious. That had been true. The last clear memory was being placed in what resembled a hyperbaric chamber.
She remembered them counting down, and being out before they reached one. She’d been told to put her uniform aside and exchange it for a simple hospital gown. With luck, nothing interesting would happen.
Finally, she began to stir, to wake, and she felt sick. Not because of the process, but an unbelievable amount of pain racked her body. A single eye shot open, not longer Winter’s own grey blue, but Cinder Fall’s amber gold eyes.
She probably could have kept cover easier if it hadn’t been for the pain that seemed to be everywhere. Instead, she gasped and wrapped her arms around herself, grateful that for the time being the villain seemed to have been alone.
She didn’t remember screaming when she’d woken up. It had been too much of a shock, that the experiment had worked, that she was in Cinder’s body, and dozens of Cinder’s bones had been fractured or broken. But it had happened.
