Thinking about how everyday racism doesn't get talked about enough
People have said to me that my good grades are because I'm Asian. Jokes about eating dogs. Questions about where I'm "really from" or "what kind of Asian" I am. Compliments from family on looking pale. I wasn't attacked in any of these instances, but all of these statements are still racist. Asian as a demographic is way too freaking broad to describe the thousands of ethnic groups found in the largest continent on the planet, and the West associating the word with Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans excludes Central Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Southeast, the islands, Siberia, and everyone in between
